    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance water resistance of the composition and to maintain and improve its performance by coating (or mixing) ammonium nitrate used as the main component of a granular explosive composition, with a coating agent. SOLUTION: In the preparation of this composition: (1) ammonium nitrate, i.e., a main component of the composition, is coated with a coating agent; (2) a powdery metal is added to and mixed into the coated ammonium nitrate described in the item (1); (3) the coating agent described in the item (1) is a mixture of at least three materials selected from three groups of materials respectively, wherein the three groups are a group of waxes, a group of polymers such as polystyrene, polyvinyl acetate, ethyl cellulose and nitrocellulose, and a group of aromatic dinitro compounds; (4) the powdery metal described in the item (2) is at least one powdery metal selected from powdery aluminum, magnesium, magnalium and ferrosilicon; (5) in the item (1) or (2), a water-insoluble void-filler material is added to the interparticle spaces of ammonium nitrate particles and mixed into them; (6) the void-filler material described in the item (5) consists of gelatinized granules; and (7) the gelatinized granules described in the item (6) are obtained by granulating a gelatinized material formed from water or an oxidizing agent aqueous solution and a water-soluble thickening agent such as guar gum or locust-bean gum.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an explosive compsn. having excellent fluidity for the process of packaging the explosive, sensitivity and power for use and high packing density in simple production processes by mixing an aromatic dinitro compd. which is liquid during mixing to a mixture having specified proportions of plural kinds of porous prill ammonium nitrate each having specified average particle size and oil absorption. SOLUTION: A mixture of 20 to 80wt.% porous prill ammonium nitrate having 0.01 to 1.0mm average particle size and 8 to 14% oil absorption and 80 to 20wt.% porous prill ammonium nitrate having 1.0 to 3.0mm average particle size and 15 to 22% oil absorption is prepared, to which an aromatic dinitro compd. (such as dinitrotoluene) in a liquid state during mixing is added preferably at 35 to 160 deg.C, more preferably at 50 to 100 deg.C to obtain the explosive compsn. The explosive compsn. contains by wt.%, 30 to 99% porous prill ammonium nitrate, preferably 70 to 96%, and 1 to 50%, aromatic dinitro compd., preferably 4 to 30%.
