    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flammable substance shutoff device capable of shutting off a flammable substance by detecting leakage of the flammable substance with a simple structure without needing a driving source such as electricity. SOLUTION: This flammable substance shutoff device is used for shutting off either a flammable substance or an oxidizer when the flammable substance and the oxidizer 103 come into contact with each other and thereby preventing the contact. The shutoff device includes: a catalyst part 101 formed in contact with either of the flammable substance and the oxidizer 103; and a shutoff means 111 operated by being heated by reaction between the flammable substance and the oxidizer in the catalyst part to shut off at least either of the flammable substance and the oxidizer.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect abnormality of a hydrogen exhaust valve regardless of the operating state of a fuel cell.
      SOLUTION: The abnormality detecting device of a fuel cell system comprises a hydrogen off-gas circulation passage (32) for circulating hydrogen off-gas exhausted from a fuel cell (20), an exhaust passage (33) for exhausting a part of the hydrogen off-gas circulating the hydrogen off-gas circulation passage (32), a hydrogen exhaust valve (A3) provided in the exhaust passage (33), an abnormality decision means (90) for deciding the abnormality of opening and closing of the hydrogen exhaust valve (A3), and a gas dynamic quantity detecting means (S1) for detecting the gas dynamic quantity of the hydrogen off-gas provided in the exhaust passage (33) on the downstream of the hydrogen exhaust valve (A3). The abnormality decision means (90) decides the abnormality of opening and closing of the hydrogen exhaust valve (A3) based on the dynamic quantity of the hydrogen off-gas.

    • PURPOSE: To provide a short-circuit device which electrically by-passes defective cells in a gas cooling-type fuel cell.
      CONSTITUTION: A fuel cell stack 1 contains one or more cell sets 2 which are separated with cooling structures 3. Each cell of cell sets 2 is provided with a channel 4 which supplies fuel reaction gas (for example hydrogen gas) and a channel 5 which supplies oxidation reaction gas (for example, air). Each of cooling structures has each cooling path 17. These paths are passed to cooling manifolds 18 and 19 in a inlet and an outlet. After a defective cell is detected and manifolds of reaction gas and cooling gas in the stack 1 are removed, a conductor 32 is inserted into corresponding cooling path 17 to make short- circuit. "Viton" 35 is used to block both ends of cooling path and both ends of reaction gas channels 4 and 5 of by-passed cells.
