    • PURPOSE:To widen the effective position locating range and to readily perform location discrimination even if the number of drifting buoys increases , by determining a position of a drifting buoy with a trigonometrical survey. CONSTITUTION:Emitted beams of light 12A, 12B, 12C from rotary light source devices 2A, 2B, 2C, at fixed positions are rotated in parallel to each other with equal speeds in the same direction. Hrerby, order of beams of light incident on an optical detector 11 on a drifting buoy at a position D is decided and angles alpha and beta are given by a ratio of time differences t1, t2 among received light pulse signals A, B, C at the device 11 to time required for one revolution of the devices 2A, 2B, 2C. Then an angle theta between a straight line BD and the x axis is calculated by using said angles alpha, beta and distances d1, d2 and further by using the theta, a distance which is defined by the segment BD and x axis, a straight line r connecting the point B and the point D which is the location of the buoy 1 is determined, thus allowing the position D(x,y) of the drifting byoy 1 to be calculated.
