    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for modifying tar in a gasification installation by which the modification of the tar can be carried out while reducing the reduction of calorific value of a gasified gas to a minimum by raising the temperature of the gasified gas with very little oxygen amount and burned amount, the trouble of downstream-side equipment by the tar can be evaded, and the heat recovery of the gasified gas by a metallic heat exchanger at a low temperature can be carried out to utilize the thermal energy efficiently without futility, and to provide an apparatus therefor. SOLUTION: The apparatus for modifying the tar is equipped with a ceramic heat exchanger 3 for carrying out the heat exchange of the gasified gas (600-900°C) containing the tar and formed in a gasification furnace 1 with the gasified gas (1,100-1,500°C) after modification, coming out from a modification furnace 2 to raise the temperature, and introducing the temperature-raised gasified gas to the modification furnace 2.
