摘要： An image forming apparatus includes a dual purpose tray that accommodates a document and a transfer sheet, a document transport mechanism to transport the document from the dual purpose tray to an image reading position, an image reading mechanism disposed beneath the document transport mechanism, an image forming mechanism disposed beneath the image reading mechanism, a transfer sheet transport mechanism to transport the transfer sheet from a bifurcation point through the image reading mechanism, a sheet feeding path that bifurcates into a first transport path through which the document is transported to the image reading position and a second transport path through which the transfer sheet is transported through the image reading mechanism to an image forming position by switching a switching member in accordance with one of a type of a recording medium set on the dual purpose tray and an operation mode of the image forming apparatus.

摘要： A method of scanning documents obtains the document that is to be scanned from an input tray, transports the document at a transport velocity past a scanner to obtain image data therefrom, and stacks each scanned document aligned with trailing-edge registration in a sloped output tray, in the order of scanning, by a sequence that detects the trailing edge of the scanned document, feeds the leading edge of the scanned document from an exit nip in a forward direction and above the sloped output tray at a transport velocity, then changes the speed at the exit nip to an exit velocity, different from the transport velocity, according to the timing of the trailing edge detection. The trailing edge of the scanned document is ejected at the exit velocity. The exit nip speed is restored to the transport velocity for feeding the leading edge of a subsequent document.

The preceding form 10A is sent out to the paper discharge tray 7 such that the rar end of the preceding form 10A and the front end of the following form 10B overlap with each other.
