    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of easily forming a recess with a predetermined depth in the surface of a workpiece made of a easily cuttable material with a small stress in spite of a large area. SOLUTION: The workpiece 1 is made of the cuttable material. A cutting tool 10 for forming the recess in the workpiece 1 is held on a moving device at a predetermined angle relative to the workpiece 1. In a fin forming step, thin-walled cutting fins 3 are vertically formed by moving the cutting tool 10 in a cutting down direction for cutting down the workpiece at a predetermined angle relative to the workpiece. Next, the cutting fins 3 are cut by moving the cutting tool 10 horizontally in a cutting step, and the cutting tool is separated from the workpiece 1.     • PURPOSE:To chamfer a rotor under low power with high productivity and accuracy, by providing a device wherein a tool having a protruded processing portion on an arc- shaped contact surface is brought into contact with the rotor while the tool is turned about the center for the arc-shaped contact surface, to perform the chamfering. CONSTITUTION:A tool 8 is moved forth by a slide member 4. When a contact surface 20 is brought into contact with a workpiece 10, load is detected to stop a cylinder 6. At that time, the tool 8 is kept turned upwards by a prescribed angle theta so that a part of the contact surface 20 which is slightly lower than a processing portion 21 is brought into contact with a part of the workpiece 10 which is slightly lower than a groove 13. A cylinder 17 coupled to an upper center member 11 is then operated to move the workpiece 10 down vertically. Since the tool 8 is in contact with the workpiece 10, the tool is turned downwards, without slipping, along with the downward movement of the workpiece so that the tool has the processing portion 21 brought into contact with the workpiece instead of the contact surface 20. Since the processing portion 21 is protruded toward the contact surface 20, the processing portion is brought into pressure contact with the edge on the end of the groove 13 to chamfer the edge with high productivity and accuracy.
