    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst warm-up promoter of an internal combustion engine, capable of reducing unburned HC and rapidly warming-up catalyst inexpensively.
      SOLUTION: The internal combustion engine provided with the catalyst arranged in an exhaust passage, is provided with an air introducing passage 32 to open to a combustion chamber 22 at the position near the bottom dead center of a piston 14 at one end, an on-off valve means 34 for opening and closing the air introducing passage 32 at the timing of the opening and closing of an exhaust valve 30, and a lead valve 42 of a one-way valve is arranged in the air introducing passage 32 to open the air introducing passage 32 in response to the negative pressure in the combustion chamber 22.

The average particle size of the carrier particles of the catalyst on the upstream side is larger than that of the catalyst on the downstream side and the amount of the noble metal per unit length and unit cell is the same in the catalyst on the upstream side and the catalyst on the downstream side.
