    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a memory system for reading data at high speed. SOLUTION: The memory system includes: a NAND flash for reading/writing data; a WC for writing data at higher speed than the NAND flash; an RC for reading data at higher speed then the NAND flash; and a controller for controlling the NAND flash, the WC and the RC, so as to transfer data, which is requested to read from a host device, to the host device. The controller sets, out of the data range of a request transfer range X that is specified in a read request from the host device, a data range of a front stage A that follows a top portion (a) of the request transfer range X and a data range of a rear stage B that follows the front stage A, and after starting transfer of data corresponding to the front stage A to the host device from the WC or RC, the controller searches the WC or RC for data corresponding to the rear stage B.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for processing the format of a rewritable recording medium for reducing a format processing time so as to maximize a data read/write speed by a user.
      SOLUTION: The format processing method by using a head for emitting a laser beam to form a management data recording area and a user recording area to a loaded recording medium, discriminates whether or not a recording medium is a rewritable recording medium and discriminates whether or not the rewritable recording medium is a blank medium when the recording medium is the rewritable recording medium. This method is characterized in that when the rewritable recording medium is discriminated to be a blank recording medium, a head 14 is moved to a top of the user recording area to automatically start a first format processing wherein the areas are formatted from the top address, and a second format processing wherein the areas are formatted from a start part of the management data recording area after the completion of the first format processing.
