    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the orientation defect of liquid crystals and to improve display quality by patterning and forming resin black matrix layers by a transfer system on a counter electrode so as to have regions concealing the thin-film transistors(TFTs) opposite thereto and partly overlapping on the end regions of color filters opposite thereto. SOLUTION: The counter electrode (ITO film) 5 is formed by sputtering over the entire surface on a glass substrate 1 or plastic substrate 1' used on the one counter electrode substrate side. The resin black matrices 6 are then formed by the transfer method on the ITO film 5 so as the cover the TFTs 2 and to partly overlap on the ends of the color filter 3 layers when the substrate is disposed opposite to the electrode substrate with TFT circuits. The resin black matrix layers 6 enhance the contrast of the display pixels. The state of the liquid crystal 7 layer is changed by the action of the current flowing between the electrodes of the ITO films 4, 5 existing on both electrode substrates and the light transmittance of every pixel part is changed, by which the image display of colors is embodied.
