    • PURPOSE:To provide an intake air control device for a four-cycle internal combustion engine to improve the intake air filling efficiency of each cylinder as the increase of the number of installed drive mechanisms is suppressed. CONSTITUTION:Intake air control valves 161-164 and actuators 171-174 are installed to intake air branch pipes 151-154 connected to four cylinders 11-14 of an internal combustion engine 10. Two cylinders 11, 14 and 12, 13, making a set, between which phase differences of a cycle are different from each other in a 360 deg. arc in the rotation angle of the internal combustion engine, and drive circuits 18a and 18b are installed to respective cylinder sets and controlled by a control part 19. Thus, an intake air control valve is opened during the early stage of an exhaust stroke and by closing an intake valve during opening of an intake air valve, intake air filling efficiency is improved, incurring of the pumping loss of a suction stroke is reduced, and spitting right before closing of the intake air valve is prevented from occurring.

    • PURPOSE:To accurately detect the rich/lean condition of mixture by computing the period at which mixture is switched over between a lean condition and a rich one, and thereby computing the deviation in time between the lean condition and the rich one only for the time in response to said period at the time of accelerating operation. CONSTITUTION:A fuel injection quantity control means 50 controls the quantity of fuel injection from a fuel injection valve 12 based on output signals from an O2 sensor 19 in such a way that mixture to be supplied to an engine shall be of a target air-fuel ratio. In this case, the period at which mixture is switched over between a lean condition and a rich one, is computed by a period computing means 51 based on outputs from the O2 sensor 19, after accelerating operation detected by an accelerating condition detecting means 52 has been started, only for the time in response to the period, the deviation in time between the rich and lean conditions of mixture is obtained by a deviation computing means 53. Based on the deviation, the quantity of fuel injection is increased by an increasing means 54 when the lean condition is longer in time than the rich one and when the deviation exceeds a set value. Thus, the lean or rich condition is accurately detected at the time of accelerating operation, an air-fuel ratio can thereby be properly controlled.

    • PURPOSE:To speedily judge anomaly with high precision by compulsorily opening a control valve by a prescribed opening degree in idling state and calculating the variation rate of the revolution speed at this time and comparing the rate with a prescribed value and judging anomaly of an exhaust recirculation device on the basis of the result of the comparison. CONSTITUTION:When an idling judging means M5 judges that an internal combustion engine EG is in idling on the basis of the result of the detection by an operation state detecting means M4, the control valve M2 of an exhaust recirculation device (EGR device) M3 is compulsorily opened by a prescribed opening degree by a compulsorily valve opening means M6. The variation rate of the revolution speed of the engine EG in the case when the valve M2 is opened is calculated on the basis of the result of the detection of the detecting means M4, by an operation speed variation rate calculating means M7, and the variation rate is compared with a prescribed value by a comparing means M8, and an anomaly judging means M9 judges the anomaly of the EGR device M3 on the basis of the result. Further, even if the opening degree of the valve M2 which is detected by the means M6 is little, the revolution variation of the engine EG can be detected, and the generation of stall can be prevented.
