    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a part requiring a sealing mechanism by narrowing a splashing area of a coolant in a grinder and reduce thermal displacement of a bed. SOLUTION: A grinding wheel G to be rotatively driven is provided on a head end of a projected part 15b of a wheel spindle stock 15 guided and supported in the direction toward a workpiece W and to be reciprocation driven by a feeding motor 16, and a grinding part of the workpiece is cooled by a coolant. A local cover 30 to prevent splashing of the coolant by surrounding the workpiece, the grinding wheel and their support parts is provided on a part on a bed 10, a spindle stock positions a spindle motor on the outside of the local cover and provides a sealing structure 20b at a part passing through the local cover, the wheel spindle stock positions its guide support part and the feed motor on the outside of the local cover and inserts the projected part of the wheel spindle stock inside the local cover through a sliding sealing structure A. It is possible to provide a hole on the wheel spindle stock 15 to pass a part of required working fluid and wiring through it.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To delay occurrence of 'shear drop' in an arc part of a grinding wheel caused by difference in removal quantity between a cylindrical material and a shoulder part and between the cylindrical material and a corner part by sticking a grinding wheel of high grinding rate to a part corresponding to the shoulder part and the corner part rather than the cylindrical part. SOLUTION: A grinding wheel 1 is composed of a ring first grinding wheel layer 3 which grinds a cylindrical part 41 of a pin P of a crankshaft, W and a segment forming second grinding layer 4 which is stuck to the outer circumferential part, of both side faces of the grinding wheel layer 3 and grinds a shoulder part 42 and a corner part 43 of the pin P. The second grinding layer 4 is formed of different grain sizes and materials of abrasive grain, for example, a CBN grinding wheel or a diamond grinding wheel so as to enlarge the grinding rate compared with the first grinding wheel layer 3 and an arc part 5 having an almost same arc as a desired one is formed in the tip part corresponding to the corner part 43 of the pin P.
