摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively reduce an impact load to a occupant when a vehicle collides by forming the front end of the lower case such that it can be deformed and escapes from the plastic deformation of the metal spoke when the metal spoke is plastically deformed near the lower side of the boss thereof and interferes with the lower case. SOLUTION: In a steering wheel having a metal spoke which is plastically deformed near a boss by a load over the setting load, a column cover 20 is disposed near the rear side of the metal spoke and comprises an upper case 28 and a lower case 30 which are divided into two cases in the direction of the length. The front end of the lower case 30 can be deformed such that it escapes from the deformation of the metal spoke when the metal spoke interferes with the lower case 30 which is plastically deformed: the front divided part 34 is formed at the front peripheral wall of the lower case 30 via weak parts 32, 33 and when it is divided, the divided end part can be overlapped on the lower case body 36 side.

CONSTITUTION: An air bag device is provided with a bag 13 having a gas inlet section 11, a pad 15 for housing the bag 13 in its folded state, an inflater 17 arranged so as to jet a gas into the gas inlet section 11 of the pad 13 and a retainer 21 having an inflater inserting hole provided in the center for inserting a held cylindrical section 18 below the inflater 17 for holding the inflater 17 and the bag 13 in the inner peripheral side and holding the pad 15 in the outer peripheral side. A holding cloth section 27 for surrounding the held cylindrical section 18 of the inflater 17 is continuously formed and an engaging/connecting means 29 is formed between the peripheral surface of the held cylindrical section 18 of the inflater 17 and the peripheral edge of the inflater inserting hole of the retainer 21.

SOLUTION: An inflator cover 11 is formed of an elastic thin plate, while being provided with a plurality of attaching holes 14 for externally fitting screw parts 3a of downwardly projected bolts 3, and engaging at their peripheral edges. The cover 11 is arranged so as to cover a lower surface of an inflator 5 by engaging the peripheral edges of the attaching holes 14 with the bolt screw parts 3a. The attaching holes 14 have long shapes spirally extended around a center of the inflator 5. Projections 15 are formed on the peripheral edges near the intermediate portions of the holes in the longitudinal direction, so as to narrow the widths of the holes.
