    • PURPOSE:To actuate a side trimming device to perform its follow-up motion in good accuracy even when a plate material width is smaller than its preset value, by detecting the plate width of a strip-shaped plate material, before it is cut, and calculating a difference from the preset plate width so as to move a trimming tool, in the case of a processing line for a hot rolled steel strip or the like. CONSTITUTION:A width BB of a steel strip 14, before it is cut, is detected by a plate width detector 34. The actually measured plate width BB is input to a width margin arithmetic unit 36. A width margin, which is obtained in the unit 36 from a difference between a preset plate width AA and the plate width BB, is compared with a limit side trimming margin, and a trimmer last stage arithmetic unit 38 is started. In this way, a shift driving gear 32 and a turn driving gear 30 are started via speed controllers 40, 42, and a side trimming device 10 performs trimming by its upper and bottom trimming tools of the steel strip 14 in good accuracy with no side out trimming and short side trimming.

    • PURPOSE: To prevent over reduction without imparting restraining force of metal strip by switching hydraulic reduction control mode from isobaric reduction load control mode to isobaric reduction position control mode in the case a difference between operating side and driving side is turned to larger than a prescribed set value. CONSTITUTION: The difference in operating side/driving side reduction position signals, which are measured by operating side and driving side reduction position detectors 13, 14, is operating by a measuring-comparision arithmetic unit 20 and is compared to the reducing position set value set beforehand. When a difference in reduction positions is larger than a prescribed value, a hydraulic reduction controller 30 controls hydraulic reduction in response to reduction position target with switching hydraulic reduction control mode from isobaric reduction load control mode to isobaric reduction position control mode. The difference in operating side/driving side rolling load signals, which is measured by operating side/driving side rolling load detectors 15, 16, is operated and is compared to reduction load set value, when a difference in reduction loads is smaller than the prescribed set value, the controller 30 executes hydraulic reduction control with switching hydraulic reduction control mode from isobaric reduction load mode to isobaric reduction position control mode.
