    • PURPOSE:To generate the high optical output in a broad band and to display the change in optical output caused by the presence or absence of gas as the waveform on a time axis by adopting a Raman fiber, which generates the induced Raman scattered phenomenon by the light pulses from a high-output- power light pulse generator. CONSTITUTION:A light transmitter 3A converts the output of a Raman fiber 2 into an optical beam 4A. A light receiver 5A receives the optical beam 4A. A wavelength selecting and light splitting device 6 separates and selects the received light of the light receiver 5A. Photodetectors 7A and 7B receive the light of a wavelength lambdaa having the absorption of the light with gas and the light of wavelength lambdab without the absorption of the light from the output of the wavelength selecting and splitting device 6 and convert the lights into the electric signals. Sampling circuits 8A and 8B sample the recieved light pulses of the photodetectors 7A and 7B on the time axis. A signal processing circuit 9 prosess the signals sampled in the sampling circuits 8A and 8B. These parts are provided. The change in intensity of the optical beam 4A is displayed on the time axis, and the presence or absence of the gas is detected.
