    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical connecting member that makes collation of coated optical fibers possible during optical communication without taking off the connection of the optical connecting member and that also facilitates the collation without giving physical bend or deformation to the coated optical fibers, and to provide a coated optical fiber collation method using this optical connecting member. SOLUTION: The optical connecting member 20 is disclosed which attachably and detachably connects between coated optical fibers for optical signal transmission and which is equipped with an optical derivation mechanism for leading out visible light inputted in the coated optical fibers, to the outside in an optically connected state. As the optical derivation mechanism, for example, a filter member 27 for reflecting visible light is arranged in a ferrule 22 in which an optical fiber 21 is inserted, to emit the visible light to the outside. Alternatively, the ferrule member with the optical fiber 21 inserted may be made of crystallized glass, diffusively transmitting leakage of the visible light on and around the connecting end face of the optical fiber, and thereby emitting the visible light to the outside. • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting method for optical fibers, which method achieves easy oblique cutting without variation when obliquely cutting a plurality of optical fibers as a bundle by surely imparting predetermined twist and tensile stress to the optical fibers, and a cutting apparatus therefor. SOLUTION: The plurality of optical fibers are scratched by a cutter and cut as a bundle while twist and tensile stress are imparted to the plurality of optical fibers. Specifically, glass fiber 11 is exposed by removing a coating portion at the cutting place of the plurality of optical fibers; the coating portions 12a and 12b at both sides of the glass fiber 11 are gripped and fixed with clamp means 14a and 14b; twist and tensile stress are imparted to the plurality of optical fibers while arranged in one parallel row by rotating the clamp means 14b on at least one side by a predetermined angle and also moving the same in the axial direction; and then the glass fiber 11 is scratched and cut.
