SOLUTION: In this height adjusting method for the magnetic head, only one prescribed point of a head base supporting a head chip is irradiated with a pulse-like laser beam for two or more times and the head base is deformed. Further, it can be irradiated with the laser beam of almost the same energy for two or more times. By the constitution, since the head base is deformed little by little by repeating the shooting of the laser beam, by controlling the number of times of the repetitive shooting, the height of the magnetic head is finely adjusted with high accuracy. Further, since the irradiation range of the laser beam is extremely small, the optical path of the laser beam is narrowed and thus the through-hole provided on the rotary drum can be made very small for passing the laser beam. When the rotary drum 1 is rotated in a direction of arrow head (r) and the succeeeding head 3 rashes to the magnetic tape 6, the invasion of the magnetic tape 6 between the heads 3 and 4 is blocked since the negative pressure prevention material 5 is provided. Therefore, the collision of the magnetic tape 6 with the head 3 can be remarkably moderated, and the longitudinal oscillation of the tap due to the collision can be reduced.
