    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a carbon material of a high quality while contamination of the material with the pyrolysate is prevented. SOLUTION: The first firing furnace 1 of a rotary kiln type which pyrolyzes organic raw materials in a low-temperature zone up to 800 deg.C is arranged on the upper stage, while the second firing furnace 2 which is an electric resistance furnace to increase the quality of the carbide pyrolyzed in the first firing furnace by further firing it in the high-temperature area up to 3,000 deg.C is arranged to the lower stage. Then, both of them are connected with an exhaustion gas generated by the connecting means 3 as the system is interrupted from the outside air. The exhaustion gas generated by heat treatment in the first firing furnace is separated with a condenser 4 into the gas phase and the liquid phase and the combustible gas is burnt with the after- burner 5 to a pollution free substance. This waste heat from the combustion of exhaustion gas is utilized to generate steam and the steam is introduced into the first firing furnace to activate the carbide. The first firing furnace is constituted with a rotary drum 9, end covers 10, 11 for masking the openings at both ends and its inside is tightly sealed by using a sealing mechanism 14 having packing members on both connection-parts and a pressing mechanism 14 for pressing the packing members to the drum side.

    • PURPOSE: To obtain a zinc oxide whisker having a larger size than that of a conventional whisker, especially a longer whisker than the conventional one by heating a zinc source together with a reducing agent in the presence of a lead oxide and then growing the zinc oxide whisker on a substrate. CONSTITUTION: A zinc source, a reducing agent, a lead oxide and a required additive (11a to 11d) are mixed with a mixing feeder 12 to prepare a raw material mixture 14, which is then fed onto a conveyor 21 and transferred to a conveying and heating part 30 for the raw material. An evaporated component from the raw material mixture heated in the conveying and heating part 30 for the raw material is then deposited and grown on a belt 32 as a substrate to form a zinc oxide whisker 35. The resultant zinc oxide whisker 35 sticking onto the substrate is recovered with a scraping means 41 and housed in a whisker recovering container 42. Silicon oxide, potassium hydroxide or a mixture thereof is used as the additive and the growth of the whisker can be promoted with the additive. A raw material residue remaining on the conveyor 21 is then housed in a recovering container 61 at the terminal of the conveyor.

    • PURPOSE:To provide a carbonization device so designed that temperature fall is prevented and temperature distribution uniformized in a rotary kiln-type carbonization oven when preheated air is to introduced into the oven to improve both carbonization efficiency and carbonized product yield. CONSTITUTION:The device is equipped with (A) a rotary kiln-type carbonization oven 1, (B) a flue gas treating means 3 for flue gas produced as a result of carbonization, (C) a pipe 4 through which air is introduced into the carbonization oven and (D) a heat exchanger 5 to heat the air introduced above by the exhaust gas from an afterburner 23. The down stream end of the pipe 4 is made to communicate with on the side of a coal material feed section 12 for the oven 1 and the upstream end of a flue gas outlet pipe 21 on the side of a carbonized product discharge section 13. The flue gas treating means is equipped with the 2nd blower 24 for forced suction of the flue gas from the oven 1 and the pipe 4 with the 4th blower 28 to force feed preheated air into the oven 1. Both the blowers are controlled by a controller 15 based on the detected values from a pressure sensor 14 to ensure maintaining the inner pressure in the oven 1 at a specified value a slightly lower than the atmospheric pressure.

    • PURPOSE:To efficiently grind an object to be ground having various shapes by shearing and grinding the object to be ground into a predetermined size or smaller by two screws and also grinding the same between a fixed blades and the screws during the transfer of the object to be ground by the screws. CONSTITUTION:The taking-in port 202 of an object to be ground is formed to the upper part of a housing 201. Two screws 210a, 210b are allowed to be adjacent each other to be horizontally received in the housing 201 in a freely rotatable manner and rotationally driven in the direction inwardly involving the object to be ground charged from the taking-in port 202 so that the feed directions of the screws mutually become reverse. Further, blades 220a, 220b are fixed to the inner peripheral wall of the housing 201 in opposed relation to respective screw blades 212a, 212b. The emitting ports 203a, 203b of the object to be ground are formed to the housing 201 corresponding to the lower parts of the terminals in the feed direction of the screws 210a, 210b. As a result, the object to be ground having various shapes can be efficiently ground.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent breaking due to fragility and to facilitate manufacturing by joining a ceramic ring having a sliding surface and a metallic ring having a base and a fitting portion for detent. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic ring 21 substantially square in section and a metallic ring 22 having a substantially circular notch 22a at one place of the inner periphery as a fitting portion are joined by a binder 23 to form a seal ring 24. The seal ring 24 is fitted in a recessed portion 2a of a base 2, which is pressed down by a retainer ring 4 to form a mechanical seal. As detent is conducted at a portion of the metallic ring 22, only a little stress is applied uniformly to the whole of the ceramic ring 21 through a binder 23 not to cause stress concentration.
