CONSTITUTION:A coating soln. prepd. by dissolving an organosilane compound represented by formula I (where R1 is 6-32C univalent hydrocarbon, X is OCOR2, OR3 or a functional group selected among groups represented by formulae II-V, R2 is 7-21C univalent hydrocarbon, and each of R3-R7 is 4-20C univalent hydrocarbon) in ''Freon'' or the like is coated on a ferromagnetic metallic thin film of Co, Co-Ni, Fe, Fe-Ni or the like formed on a support by a diagonal vapor deposition method so that about 2mg/m organosilane compound is stuck. The coefft. of friction of the surface of the resulting magnetic recording medium is reduced, the traveling performance and durability are improved, and the still time can be prolonged considerably.

Since the OR groups in organosilane are hardly hydrolyzed even at high humidity, the lubricity of the recording medium is not reduced.

Ferromagnetic iron oxide particles, ferromagnetic chromium dioxide, ferromagnetic alloy powder and hexagonal ferrite particles, etc. are used for the ferromagnetic powder. The respective components are dissolved in a solvent to prepare a magnetic coating compd. which is then coated in the substrate having the high rigidity and heat resistance. The coating is cured by the irradiation of electron rays thereon.
