摘要： PURPOSE:To provide a manufacturing method for optical switch element which is configured simply and with which the tip of an optical fiber is not likely broken or damaged. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber 3 is adhered fast to the body 2 of an optical switch element in such a way as protruding at the butting side end face 2b of the element body 2, and at the tip 10 of this optical fiber 3, a protecting member is fitted to protect the tip 10 as surrounding it and is secured to the protrusive reference surface 8 of the butting side end face 2b. The fiber tip 10 is trimmed together with the protecting member into a specified protruding dimension, and the protecting member is removed from the fiber tip 10.

摘要： PURPOSE:To maintain a stable high-temp. characteristic even when a coupler terminal receives a stress by using an adhesive having the glass transition point nearer the high-temp. side by a prescribed temp. or above than the service temp. CONSTITUTION:The adhesive for fixing the optical fibers of the optical fiber coupler constituted by fusing and stretching plural pieces of the optical fibers and fixing the fibers to a reinforcing member has the glass transition point higher by at least 15 deg.C than the service temp. range of the optical fibers. The adhesive in such a case is any of adhesives of org. systems, such as, for example, epoxy-, urethane- and cyano-systems, which are photosetting or are cured by energy beams such as UV rays and visible rays. The glass transition point of the adhesive exhibits the temp. at which a high polymer softens. This glass transition point can be obtd. as the inflection point of, for example, TMA (Thermal Mechanical Analyze) or the maximum value of tan delta by dynamic viscoelasticity.

摘要： PURPOSE:To reinforce the multiple optical fiber coupler by thinly applying a silane coupling agent on the glass surfaces constituting optical fibers just prior to application of the adhesive onto the coated optical fibers and increasing adhesion force between the adhesive and the optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:The glass parts exposed after the coatings of the multiple type optical fibers are removed are fixed by optical fiber clamps 12 and are heated and welded by a microtorch 13. The optical fiber clamps 12 are removed after the heating and welding and while tension is held applied to the welded optical fibers, the welded point is heated and stretched. The silane coupling agent is applied by coating on the non-stretched part of the exposed glass parts and thereafter, the adhesive is fixed to a reinforcing base plate by applying and curing. A shielding plate 16 is moved to the home position in the upper part of the stretched part in order to prevent the sticking of the silane coupling agent to the optical coupling part at this time and thereafter, the reinforcing plate 16 is disposed to the prescribed position and the adhesive is applied and cured.

摘要： PURPOSE:To stably produce a coupler having a high-precision branch ratio by fixing the drawing tension acting on an optical fiber and controlling the flow rate of gas supplied to a heating source to always realize a set drawing speed. CONSTITUTION:Comparison fibers 4a and 4b where an exposure part 5 is formed are fixed to a clamper 3 of drawing stages 2a and 2b, and a certain tension is given by weights 8a and 8b, and they are heated by a burner 6 to form a prescribed coupler. In this case, the burner 6 has plural gas spray exits in the axial direction of comparison fibers, and gas for flame of the gas burner 6 is controlled by flow rate controllers 7a and 7b based on the command of a computer 12. Outputs of drawing stage movement extent detectors 11a and 11b and outputs of photodetectors 10a and 10b which receive the light from a light source 9 are inputted to the computer 12. The branch ratio of the coupler is measured during heating and drawing, and the set drawing speed is set as the function of the branch ratio to easily obtain the branch ratio of high precision.

The improvement in the positioning accuracy and the stabilization of the coupling are compatibly attained in this way.

The container 4 is heated by the burner 3 and the fibers are stretched. The fibers are stretched until a desired branching ratio is obtd. The burner 3 is then parted from the fibers. The fibers 1, 2 and the container 4 are fixed by using an adhesive 5 at both ends of the container 4.
