摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To downscale a tape drive unit and to improve traveling stability. SOLUTION: A tape drive unit 1 which pulls out and runs a tape-shaped recording medium 102 from the pullout port 101a of a case body 101 of a one- reel type tape cassette 100, is provided with a drum 17 around which the tape- shaped recording medium is wound and slide-contacted, a guide shaft 22a for turning the tape-shaped recording medium at a prescribed position near the pullout port of the case body, and a pair of guide pins 20a and 21a which can be moved in a direction which contacts/separates from the drum, and are separated in the peripheral direction of the drum near the drum when moved in a direction close to the drum. The tape-shaped recoding medium is turned in order by the guide shaft for turning and the pair of guide pin moved in the direction close to the drum, and then the tape-shaped recording medium located between the pair of guide pins is wound around the drum.

When data are supplied from the external equipment of a host computer 30 or the like in a standby state, the pinch-roller 26 is made to be in 'off' to be separated from the capstan 27. Next, the pinch-roller 26 becomes to be in press-contact again to start the recording of data. At the time of recording, the off of the poinch-roller 26 is periodically performed so as to become the extent of one time every time a normal reposition is performed 50 times. Repositioning at the time of reproduction is performed always by making the pinch-roller 26 to be in 'on' state.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve reliability in reading and writing data in a nonvolatile memory when a tape which uses the nonvolatile memory is used. SOLUTION: When a tape is loaded, data in an MIC (internal memory) are read and the parity is checked (S10). When no error is found, the data are written to the memory (S11, S12). When an error is found, MIC contact restoring operation is performed by moving a cassette up and down (S15 to S17) and the parity is checked again (S10). The check and restoring operation are repeated and if an error is still found after restoring is repeated up to an upper- limit frequency (S14), the tape is fed to a ready position (S18) and the data in a system area on the tape are read in (S19). At this time, a flag in the system area which indicates which of MIC and tape system area data is used is so changed that the tape is used.
