    • PURPOSE:To provide a polydiacetylene having such display functions as electroconductivity, electrochronism etc. along with high processability, constituted by such structure that polymeric side chain carrying both hydrogen bond-forming part and charge-transfer complex one is connected to the polymeric main chain through a spacer. CONSTITUTION:The objective polyacetylene having recurring unit of formula I or II[R is -A-X-B-Y; A is spacer represented by -(CH2)p- or -CH2O(CH2)q-, (p and q are each 1-10); B is spacer selected from -(CH2)a-COO-, -(CH2)b-O-, -(CH2)c-O- CH2-, and -(CH2)d-OCO- (a-d are each 1-5); X is hydrogen bond-forming part selected from -NHCOO-, -NHCO-, etc.; Y is charge-transfer complex part]. The synthesis of the charge-transfer complex part can be accomplished by conversion into complex with either a combination of polymeric side chain terminal group as donor and guest component as acceptor or its opposite one; however, the former being preferable. The polymeric side chain terminal group is to be of a compound having basic skeleton with either donor or acceptor nature, also carrying functional group, e.g. carboxyl one.
