    • PURPOSE:To uniformize the wear of the pillow part and to prevent the generation of a sharp step by forming the pillow part of the partition wall for the pickling tank with an acid and wear-resistant brick member at the center and a soft member susceptible to wear on both sides. CONSTITUTION:The pickling tank 1 is separated by the partition wall 3 into plural baths 2, and a strip 6 is passed successively through the pickling soln. 7 in the bath 2 through the wall 3 and pickled. The wall 3 is formed with a supporting base 4 and a skid cap 5 at the pillow part in contact with the traveling strip 6. The skid cap 5 is formed from the brick member 8 excellent in resistance to acid and wear at the center and the soft member 9 more susceptible to the wear by the strip 6 than the brick member 8 on both sides. Consequently, the wear loss is practically uniformized at the center and both sides different in the passage frequency of the strip 6, a sharp step is hardly generated, and the cracking of the surface of the strip 6 is prevented.

    • PURPOSE:To easily produce a gas blowing porous plug by injecting gaseous nitrogen through holes from one side face of a metallic base plate formed with many holes, thermally spraying a refractory material with a thermal spraying burner into a receiving brick having a circular truncated cone shape provided on the opposite side face and solidifying said material. CONSTITUTION:One side of the metallic plate 20 such as steel plate having the many holes sized about 1mm in diameter is fixed by a gas supplying means 28 and the opposite side is fixed by the receiving brick 26 having the circular truncated cone shape 24 at the time of manufacturing the porous plug 10 for blowing an inert gas, gaseous oxygen, etc., into a molten metal. The inert gas such as N2 is injected from the surface of the means 28 through the holes 22 at a high flow rate of 50m/sec to the opposite side. The refractory material powder consisting of 80% MgO and 20% converter slag is thermally sprayed by the thermal spraying burner 30 into the circular truncated cone shape space 24 of the brick 26 and is laminated into the space 24. The porous plug 10 having the many vent holes 18 for ejection from the holes 22 into the space 24 of the brick 26 is easily produced.

    • PURPOSE:To extend the service life of a bottom blowing tuyere and to reduce the cost of the gas used by using the gas contg. a large amt. of non-oxidative gas or reducing gas as the stirring gas to be blown from the bottom after the mid-period of combined blowing. CONSTITUTION:Gas contg. 40-100vol% non-oxidative gas such as Ar, N2 or the like and/or reducing gas such as CO, methane, propane or the like is used as the stirring gas to be blown after the mid-period of blowing in a combined blowing method wherein oxygen is top blown with an upper lance 7 to the molten iron 5 and slag 6 in a converter 1 consisting of a shell 2 and refractories 3 and the stirring gas is blown from the tuyere 4 in the bottom, whereby the wear of the tuyere 4 is suppressed while the cost of the stirring gas is taken into consideration and the service life of the tuyere is made at least equivalent to the life of the converter. It is further preferable for the decreased temp. of the tuyere 4 hence decreased wear thereof to increase the cooling capacity by blowing the stirring gas to be blown after the mid-period of blowing at a rate of 1-3 times the rate of blowing before the mid-period of blowing.
