    • PURPOSE:To prevent longitudinal crack of solidified shell at the initial stage and to prevent the development of surface defect on a cast billet by coating the specific grooves arranged at mold surface side positioning near meniscus of molten steel in a mold with plating layer and forming the space part. CONSTITUTION:The grooves are arranged on the surface side of the mold 1 and coated with the plating layer 4 to form the space part 2. Therefore, difference of cooling capacities between the position arranging the space part 2 and the position arranging no space part, is developed. Then, the part arranging the space part 2 becomes weak cooling part and the initial stage solidified shell at this position is a little delayed to develop. Therefore, by arranging the many space parts 2, the liquid phase remains at every fixed interval and strain at the time of shrinking is absorbed by this liquid phase content and bending of the initial stage solidified shell is restrained and local formation of the space between the mold 1 and the solidified shell is eliminated. Therefore, conduction of the heat is made to uniform and the solidified shell thickness is uniformly grown. Then, the size of the space part 2 is made to 0.5 - 1.0mm depth and 0.5 - 1.0mm width and interval of the grooves is made to 5 - 10mm.

    • PURPOSE:To enable holding of low casting temp. and to reduce wear of refractory in a refining furnace by usually controlling output of plasma arc in accordance with the measured value of molten steel temp. in a tundish. CONSTITUTION:The temp. of the molten steel 12 discharged into a ladle 10 is set to less than the usual temp. and the temp. of the molten steel 12 poured into the tundish 20 from the ladle 10 is measured with temp. measuring means and the output control of the plasma is executed under comparison of the suitable temp. range preset with kinds of the molten steel 12 and a mold 30. By this method, as the molten steel temp. in the tundish 20 can be easily obtd. in the suitable temp. range, the good cast slab can be obtd. even to the severe kind in the suitable temp. range. Further, even in the case the molten steel temp. is low, as the steel tapping nozzle 22 is covered with the stopper 42, it is to fear that the steel tapping nozzle 22 is clogged caused by developing the solidification of the molten steel 12, and the wear of the refractory in the refining furnace is reduced.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent center segregation of a cast slab developed at end stage of solidification by remelting center part of the slab with joule heat through electrodes arranged as facing while inserting the cast slab just after crater end. CONSTITUTION:In the continuous casting of the slab, at the position within 2m of diameter of the crater end 10, the center part of the cast slab 11 is made to high temp. by heating with joule heat through electric current to the thickness direction of the cast slab 11 and the solidified temp. is made to lower by concentrating the solute. Therefore, the center part of the cast slab 11 is precedencely remelted. The remelted part 15 is diluted by mixing concentrated solute and diffused around the solid phase part. Further, as equi-axed crystal is excelently grown at the time of resolidifying, the center segregation 14 developed before resolidifying is remarkably reduced.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce segregation at edge part of thickness center of a cast slab by giving the rolling reduction to thickness direction of the cast slab and impressing static magnetic field to thickness direction of the cast slab in the specific range of length from short side of the cast slab and the solid phase ratio at the center position of the cast slab thickness. CONSTITUTION:For example, AC electromagnets 4 are set at interval between rolls 7 for light rolling reduction in the range of 10-14m from lower end of a mold 2. The above range is corresponded to the position existing between 0.3-0.7 solid phase ratio thick center 8 in the cast slab 1, at the time of being 0.7-0.9m/min drawing speed. The electromagnet 4 is made so as to cover the range (non-solidified phase 12) between 150-300mm from the short side face 9 in the cast slab. The molten steel 6 is poured into the water cooled mold 2 and solidified to form the solidified shell, and this is further thickened with atomizing cooling at part of the support roll 5 and passed through pinch roll 3 zone, and the light rolling reduction is executed with the rolls 7 and the static field is impressed toward thick direction with the electromagnet 4. By this method, the segregated degree at 150-300mm from the short of the cast slab is improved and hydrogen induced cracking does not occur.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce impurity segregated at center part of a continuously slab and to produce the cast slab having high quality by giving rotating magnetic field rotating toward reverse direction to rotating direction of rolls for light squeeze at crater end part of the cast slab in the case of executing light rolling reduction to the cast slab. CONSTITUTION:In the continuously cast slab 30 drawn from a mold in a continuous casting apparatus, non-solidified molten metal 34 at inner part of solidified shell 32 exists and the light squeeze is executed to the cast slab by many rolls 16 of light squeeze device 10 and the cast slab is cooled by cooling water from spray nozzles and bent toward horizontal direction at a little part of the non-solidified molten metal while increasing thickness of the solidified shell 32. A magnetic field generators 22, 22 are arranged at the part of crater end 36 in the cast slab 30, to generate the rotating magnetic field rotating toward reverse direction to the rotating direction of the rolls 16. By action of this magnetic field, the non-solidified molten metal near the crater end is ascended to the mold direction, and as the molten metal, in which the impurity, such as P, S, are concentrated, is returned back to the upper part, the segregation of the impurity in the finish solidified part at the crater end part is reduced and the cast slab having excellent quality can be produced.
