摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an apparatus and method for imaging in which high speed image processing is realized in monochromatic mode without increasing the data transfer rate or shortening the exposing time. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus comprises a plurality of planes 3C, 3M, 3Y and 3K being irradiated, and a plurality of optical print heads 16C, 16M, 16Y and 16K provided in correspondence with respective planes being irradiated. Each optical print head comprises at least one light emitting element array 20C, 20M, 20Y, 20KA and 20KB and the number of light emitting element arrays of a specified optical print head 16K among the plurality of optical print heads is set higher than that of other optical print head. At the time of multicolor mode, use conditions are equalized for the specified optical print head 16K and other optical print head. At the time of monochromatic mode, the specified optical print head 16K having a larger number of light emitting element arrays is used.

Thus, when a picture having print data generated by a host device 112 or the like is desired to be synthesized, the synthesis print is attained by having only to set the picture to the scanner.
