And a computing means 1c computes the minimum position data of the volume position data stored in the position data storage means 1a based on the comparison result, and stores the data obtained as the result of computation as the volume position data representing the present volume position in the position data storage means 1a. In such a way, almost the proportional relation of the amount of travel of the volume to a time required for the detection of the volume can be obtained.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an apparatus, as a recording means, in which the arithmetic processing rate does not lower by recording a time code converted into R-DAT, detecting a recording mode of the recording means, controlling the conversion timing of a converting means and then converting the data in every one frame in the ordinary recording mode and in every two frames in the multiplied speed recording mode. SOLUTION: An apparatus connects a VTR1 and a recording 2 and moreover connects a time code generator 3 to generate the time code to both apparatuses. The time code generator 3 generates the SMPTE time code to the VTR1 and recorder 2. Within the recorder 2, the SMPTE time record is input to the converter 4 and frame extracting section 5. In the frame extracting section 5, the frame period of the SMPTE time code is extracted by detecting the frame edge of the SMPTE time record and the SMPTE frame signal indicating the frame period is output to the converter 4.
