The case is formed by separately designing two modules, i.e., a communication unit casing 10 and an IO unit casing 11, and connecting them together. The communication unit board has a communication connector 21a for a network to be connected and a communication circuit for the network. The base unit board has an IO connector 23a for connecting IO equipment. The IO circuit unit board has the function of sending and receiving IO data to and from the IO equipment and other additional functions.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a slave for a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), reducing a load on a user program on the PLC side, and allowing real-time abnormality detection of a photoelectric sensor, when executing a sensor abnormality diagnostic method using a projection light intensity changeover, in a sensing system wherein a plurality of transmission type photoelectric sensors are connected to the PLC through the slave.
      SOLUTION: This slave for the PLC includes a communication processing part, an output terminal block, an input terminal block, an output processing part, an input processing part, and a control part. The control part includes a sensor abnormality diagnostic means, and a sensor abnormality detection contact memory. In the sensor abnormality diagnostic means, the changeover of a projection light intensity is performed between a 100% light intensity state and a 50% light intensity state. When sensor output in time of the 100% projection light intensity state is presence of light reception and when the sensor output in time of the 50% projection light intensity state is absence of the light reception, it is diagnosed that the photoelectric sensor is abnormal. Data corresponding to a diagnostic result are stored in the sensor abnormality detection contact memory as an operation state of an abnormality detection contact of each the corresponding transmission type photoelectric sensor.
