    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital control automatic bias control circuit with simple circuit constitution that stably detects the phase of a low-frequency component included in an optical signal output from an optical modulator.
      SOLUTION: The digital control automatic bias control circuit 100 operates so as to control a DC bias voltage applied to the optical modulator 104 to an optimum value by applying the DC bias voltage on which an electric signal varying in a rectangular wave shape is superposed to the optical modulator 104 and detecting the phase of the low-frequency component included in the optical signal output from the optical modulator 104. The optical signal output from the optical modulator 104 is converted into an electric signal, which is converted into a binary digital signal by a comparator circuit 108 in the digital control automatic bias control circuit 100. A phase comparator 109 compares the phase of the low-frequency signal applied to the optical modulator 104 with the phase of the comparator output, and the DC bias voltage applied to the optical modulator 104 is adjusted in steps according to the sign of the phase.
