    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rod-shape light guide in which the illuminance of light emitted from an emitting face formed along the longitudinal direction is uniform.
      SOLUTION: The rod-shape light guide 12 exposes the emitting face 12a from a white case 11 and has a pattern 14 for diffusing and reflecting light at the bottom face opposed to the emitting face. The pattern 14 is formed of white paint or a fine concavo-convex. Further, the end face 15 on the opposite side to the incident side of the rod-shape light guide 12 is made into a cube corner reflector shape. That is, the end face 15 is made into a mountain shape by mirror-finished flat surfaces 15a, 15b, and the flat surfaces 15a, 15b are inclined to an angle in which the incident angle θ of the light which has advanced in parallel with the longitudinal direction of the rod-shape light guide 12 in the light guide 12 becomes smaller than a critical angle.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize high speed image reading by improving the radiating performance of a light-emitting unit substrate, and increasing illuminating luminance by increasing the maximum currents running through the light-emitting element.
      SOLUTION: A light-emitting unit 20 is constituted by forming an open window 21a for mounting light-emitting elements on a resin light-emitting unit substrate 21, associated with a lead frame 22. The lead frame is provided with lead terminals 22a and inner leads and light-emitting element mounting and connecting parts 22b exposed in the open window 21a. Light emitting elements 23a, 23b, and 23c are mounted on the lead frames 22b exposed inside the open window 21a, the electrodes of the light-emitting elements are connected through a metal wire 24 to the lead frames, and the open window is sealed with transparent resin. The lead frames 22 are formed of iron copper.

A main pattern 30 for light scattering is formed with white paint on the side surface 24, and this main pattern 30 is formed by forming alternatively painted portions 30a and non-painted portions 30b along the lengthwise direction and the width of the painted portion 30a is shorter in a side closer to a light-emitting source 11, while it becomes gradually larger toward an opposite side end surface. Also, a sub-pattern 31 for light scattering is formed with white paint on the side surface 25.
