    • PURPOSE:To eliminate the need of a refractive index matching agent and to improve the attaching detaching operability, and also, to obtain a connection characteristic of a low reflection and a low loss by bringing each optical fiber connecting end face into contact obliquely and directly with each other at the time of connecting each plug. CONSTITUTION:A connecting end face 16 of a plastic formed plug 14 becomes the inclined surface incled at a larger angle - or + than a total reflection critical angle of a propagation light in an optical fiber from the face being orthogonal to an axis of the optical fiber 2. The optical fiber 2 is fixed by having a small projection amount DELTAL in parallel to the connecting end face 16 on which its connecting end face is inclined. Connection of the plugs 14 and 14' is connected by inserting a pair of guide pins 6 into a pin insertion hole 15 of one plug 14', inserting the plugs 14, 14' from both sides of a guide sleeve 17 and butting them, fitting in a crank spring 7 and pressurizing it in the axial direction. In this case, the inside diameter dimension of the guide sleeve 17 is a little larger than the outside diameter dimension of the plug terminal (tip) part.

    • PURPOSE:To enable the waveform compression and intensity amplification of a signal optical pulse with small-sized, simple constitution by making a signal optical pulse and an exciting optical pulse incident on an optical fiber for compression and compressing the pulse width of the signal optical pulse, and making it incident on an optical fiber to which rare earth elements are added and amplifying the signal optical pulse. CONSTITUTION:The optical fiber 7 for signal optical pulse compression is interposed between the terminal 3B of an optical coupler 3 and the erbium-added optical fiber 2, its one terminal is connected to a terminal B, and the other terminal is connected to one end of the erbium-added optical fiber 2. Then the signal optical pulse and exciting optical pulse are made incident on the optical fiber 7 for compression at the same time, the signal optical pulse has a chirp by non-linear optical effect caused by the exciting optical pulse, and the pulse width of the signal optical pulse is compressed by the effect of abnormal dispersion. Then the compressed signal optical pulse and exciting light pulse are made incident on the optical fiber 2 to which rare earth elements are added and the signal optical pulse is amplified by excited amplification effect caused by erbium. Consequently, the signal optical pulse can be relayed by the device of small-sized, simple constitution.
