CONSTITUTION:In painting the outer panel of a car, electrodeposition paint is applied to a steel plate, which is subjected to chemical forming treatment using zinc phosphate or iron phosphate, in a thickness of 10-35mu at first and, after baking, an urethane elastomer is applied to the steel plate in a thickness of 5-40mu and baked. The soft layer formed after baking is set so as to have static glass transition temp. of -20 deg.C or less, further, elongation at rupture at 20 deg.C of 50% or more and braking strength of 300-1,000kg/cm . If necessary, usual intermediate coat and/or top coat is applied to the soft layer.

The compsn. contains a binder comprising a partially amine- or ammonia-neutralized polycarboxylic acid resin and a curing agent. An acrylic polycarboxylic acid resin and a curing agent which causes a three-dimensional crosslinking reaction under heating are used in terms of weatherability, suitability for coloration, chemical resistance, etc. The compsn. is prepd. by partially neutralizing a mixture comprising the pigment, the polycarboxylic acid resin, and the curing agent with an amine or ammonia and then dispersing, together with water added, on a bead mill or by mixing and dispersing the pigment and a binder into an aq. resin dispersion prepd. by emulsion polymn. or suspension polymn.
