    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of a failure of a metallic carrier by executing brazing on the exhaust gas inflow side of the metallic carrier and diffusion joining on the exhaust gas outflow side thereof in executing joining of the contact part of flat foil and corrugated foil. SOLUTION: A honeycomb body 1 is formed by using stainless steel contg. aluminum and subjecting the flat foil 5 to corrugation to form corrugated foil 6 and alternately winding the corrugated foil 6 and the flat foil 5. The joining of the contact parts of the flat foil 5 and corrugated foil 6 of the honeycomb body 1 is executed by applying an adhesive on the flat foil 5 or the corrugated foil 6 before winding on the exhaust gas inflow side of the metallic carrier 2, sprinkling brazing powder on the honeycomb body 1 after winding to stick the brazing powder to the adhesive coated parts, thereby forming brazied parts 4. The flat foil 5 and the corrugated foil 6 and wound on the exhaust gas outflow side 4 and are subjected to a high-temp. vacuum treatment, by which the contact part of the flat foil 5 and the corrugated foil 6 are diffusion joined and the diffusion joined parts 15 are formed.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to sufficiently absorb the thermal stresses in the radial direction and axial direction of a columnar honeycomb body carried with catalysts on the surfaces in vent holes by interposing annular elastic supporting bodies between this honeycomb body and a cylindrical casing in which the honeycomb body is inserted and held, thereby mechanically supporting and restraining both. SOLUTION: This catalyst converter is constituted by inserting the honeycomb body 6 into the cylindrical casing (outside cylinder) 1 and carrying the prescribed catalysts thereon. The annular elastic supporting bodies 2, 4 having a corrugated shape in the sectional shape in the axial direction are wound one round on the circumference of the honeycomb body 6 in order to mechanically support and restrain the outside cylinder 1 and the honeycomb body 6. Namely, the annular elastic supporting body 2 on the honeycomb body side has an overlap part 7 and is joined to the honeycomb body 6 in joint parts 3 at two points. On the other hand, the annular elastic supporting body 4 on the outer cylinder side is wound to overlap on the corrugation shape of the annular elastic supporting body 2. The top end of the annular elastic supporting body 4 is made longer so as to protrude and the annular elastic supporting body is joined 5 in this part to the outside cylinder 1.
