    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb body manufacturing method for manufacturing a honeycomb body 1 by winding a metal flat foil 3 and a metal corrugated foil 4 to laminate and solder them, making the equipment cost of a honeycomb body manufacturing apparatus inexpensive without generating coating failure or an increase in a coating range in the coating of an adhesive due to a roll and capable of devising the accidental fire counter measure of the honeycomb body. SOLUTION: The adhesive is applied to the parts to be soldered of the flat or corrugated foil corresponding to the bonding part 17 of the end part of the honeycomb body and/or the transverse surface bonding part 18 in the honeycomb body axially separated from the end part, and the flat foil and the corrugated foils are subsequently wound to form a honeycomb body shape. Further, the parts corresponding to the bonded parts 16 ranging over the total length in the axial direction of the outer peripheral part of the honeycomb body in the end surface of the honeycomb body are brought into contact with the surface of a binder liquid to allow the contact parts 5 of the foil and corrugated foils to suck the binder liquid and, thereafter, a solder powder is sprinkled over the honeycomb body to deposit the solder material on the adhesive and binder adhering parts.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a honeycomb body formed by winding around, stacking and brazing metal made flat foils 3 and corrugated foils 4, whereby the equipment cost of a honeycomb body manufacturing device can be reduced and a measure against accidental fire can also be taken without causing a defective coating and an increase in coating area found in the coating of an adhesive agent by using a roll. SOLUTION: The honeycomb body manufacturing method is characterized by comprising the steps of applying the adhesive agent to the blazed portion of the flat or the corrugated foils corresponding to a connection part 17 at the end part of the honeycomb body and/or a cross sectional connection part 18 inside the honeycomb body apart axially from the end part, winding around the flat foils and the corrugated foils to form a honeycomb body shape, bringing the portion of the honeycomb body end face corresponding to the connection part 16 over the entire axial length of the honeycomb body outer peripheral part into contact with the surface of binder liquid to suck the binder into a contact part 5 between the flat foils and the corrugated foils and spraying wax powder over the honeycomb body to adhere the wax material onto the adhesive agent and binder adhered part.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent generation of dislocation in a catalytic converter where an outer cylinder having a honeycomb body of which outer circumference is connected at an inner circumferential surface is connected to an exhaust pipe by connecting by welding the outer cylinder and the honeycomb body at a position other than the part where the honeycomb body and the outer cylinder is connected, thereby alleviating stress in the connection part between the honeycomb body and the outer cylinder. SOLUTION: A metal carriage 1 of a catalytic converter has an outer cylinder 3 in which a honeycomb body 2 is set, the outer circumference of the honeycomb body 2 and the inner circumferential surface of the outer cylinder 3 is connected at a downstream position 12. The honeycomb body 2 is formed of a laminated structure of a flat foil and a corrugated foil. For example one to which joining member is adhered is pressure fitted in the connection part, then soldering powder is supplied to the contact part between the flat and corrugated foil sheets and the outer cylinder 3, and it is subjected to high temp. to connect the honeycomb body 2 and the outer cylinder 3. In the metal carrier 1 the outer cylinder 3 and cone parts 4, 5 of exhaust pipe are connected 10, 11 by welding in this way, and in this case the position of the connection part 11 is taken into consideration so that no connection part 11 exist on the cross sectional surface of the connection part 12.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a wind from becoming tight in a small diameter zone and thereby obtain a qualitatively stable honeycomb form with high dimensional accuracy when manufacturing the metal honeycomb by winding a metal plain foil and a metal corrupted foil laminated together. SOLUTION: When manufacturing a metal honeycomb by winding a metal plain foil 1 and a metal corrugated foil 2 laminated over each other using a winding shaft 5 and a pair of side clamps, these foils are wound at a low tension of 0.1-0.5kgf/mm in a small diameter zone of a winding diameter of 5-50mm in which an excess wind tightening phenomenon is most likely to occur. In addition, on the outer peripheral face of winding, the inside of the metal corrugated foil 2 and the outside of the metal plain foil 1, and the inside of the metal plain foil 1 and the outside of the metal corrupted foil 2 within the range of 360 deg. in the peripheral direction, spot-welded at least, at one spot to fix both metal corrugated foil 2 and metal plain foil 1. After fixing these foils, their both lateral faces are supported by the pair of side clamps under pressure and wound at a higher tension than that of the small diameter zone, i.e., 0.6-5kgf/mm .
