    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent premature hardening and generation of crack of an outer lip, to prevent intrusion of rolling oil, and to prevent deterioration of bearing oil, seizing of bearing and generation of trip at the time of starting a mill by using >= two kinds of rubber materials according to characteristics required for the parts constituting each of the functions of a seal. SOLUTION: A roll neck seal 60 has an outer lip 62 projecting outward in a plate-like shape from the base body in the radial direction, an inner lip 61, and a bearing oil splashing lip 63. Both of the outer lip 62 and the inner lip 61 have a sealing contact with a seal plate 17, the outer lip 62 prevents intrusion of rolling oil and the inner lip 61 prevents flowing-out of bearing oil. The bearing oil splashing lip 63 likewise prevents the flowing-out by splashing the bearing oil. By making each of the inner and outer lips 61, 62 of nitril rubber and heat resisting hydrogenerated nitril rubber respectively, hardening and crack of the outer lip 62 having heavier deterioration than the inner lip 61 are prevented for a long period, and further deterioration of bearing oil due to intrusion of rolling oil and seizing of bearing due to such causes or the like are prevented.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the penetration of water into a bearing box and prevent the failure of a bearing by providing a drip plate for water penetrating into the roll end inner part on the roll side of the bearing box. SOLUTION: A roll 1 is supported on a bearing 3, and the bearing 3 is fixed by a bearing box 4. The grease supplied through a greasing port 6 in order to lubricate the bearing 3 is discharged through a seal 5. At this time, drip plate 7 for water penetrating into the end of the roll 1 is provided on the roll 1 side of the bearing box 4 to prevent the seal 5 of the bearing box 4 from being directly exposed to water. According to this structure, the penetration of water into the bearing box 4 can be prevented to reduce the bearing failure. Preferably, a regularly opened degreasing pipe 8 for greasing work confirmation is provided so as not to fill the inner part of the drip plate 7 with the grease leaked from the seal 5, and the outlet of the degreasing pipe 8 is set downward. Thus, the greasing work can be confirmed without filling a large quantity of grease in the drip plate 7, and the using quantity of grease can be reduced.
