    • PURPOSE:To improve the adhesive property of a hard film of a WC-Co system to the base material of the cold rolling roll on which a high load and high face pressure are applied by providing specific relations among the film thickness and Shore hardness of the above-mentioned hard film and the Shore hardness of the base metal of the roll at the time of forming the hard film having excellent wear resistance on the surface of the roll. CONSTITUTION:The hard film of the WC-Co system is formed on the surface of the roll for cold rolling of steel products, etc., in such a manner as to satisfy the relations expressed by equation among the thickness thetamum of the hard film of the WC-Co system, the Shore hardness HS1 of the film and the Shore hardness HS2 of the base material of the rolling roll in order to prevent the peeling of the hard film of the WC-Co system during the operation at the time of forming the hard film of the WC-Co system on the surface of the rolling roll by an explosive thermal spraying, etc., to improve the wear resistance of the roll. The adhesive property of the hard film to the base material of the roll is thereby improved and the service life of the cold rolling roll is prolonged.

    • PURPOSE:To reform the surface of a metallic material and to impart excellent wear resistance and lubricity to the material by dispersing hard powdery fine particles having specified hardness and the fine particles of BN, graphite, etc., in the metallic plating layer of Ni, Co, etc., in specified amts. CONSTITUTION:The composite plating film is formed on the surface of a metallic material as follows by dispersing powdery fine particles in the metallic plating film. Namely, the hard particles of SiC, etc., having 1-5mum grain size and >=900 Vickers hardness and the self-lubricating fine particles of >=1 kind among the BN, graphite and mica having 1-5mum grain size are dispersed in the metallic plating layer of Ni, Ni-P, hard chromium or Co. In this case, the weight ratio of the hard fine particles to the self-lubricating fine particles is controlled to (80:20)-(50:50), and the total content of both fine particles of the metallic plating layer is controlled to 10-25wt.%. The surface-reformed metallic material is specially utilized to improve the wear resistance of a work roll for cold rolling.
