    • PURPOSE:To detect a flaw at a high S/N by combining two UST probes together as one set, arranging the probes at positions symmetrical in a direction where an acoustic wave is transmitted and received, and providing a probe position shifting mechanism which put the two probes in symmetrical motion around a fulcrum about a segment. CONSTITUTION:A test sample 2' is formed by treating the center part of a copper bar 6 with an insulator 4 without treating both ends and making a flaw 1' in one untreated end with a chisel. When the flaw of this sample 2' is detected by a one-probe method, a large noise signal is generated at the position of an insulated part in addition to a signal corresponding to the chisel flaw 1' and a signal corresponding to a copper bar end part 6'. For the purpose, a probe 5 for excitation and a probe 5' for reception are provided and when the flaw is detected by a two-probe method, almost no noise signal appears at a position corresponding to the insulated part, thereby obtaining a sufficient S/N flaw signal even if the flaw to be detected is present in the insulated part.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the reliability and to make the device small-sized, simple, and low-cost, by propagating ultrasonic pulses along a weld line and providing a weld position detecting device on a common base coaxially. CONSTITUTION:A transmitting oscillator 3 and a receiving oscillator 4 are provided along the weld line of a weld 2 so as to face each other, and the ultrasonic beam radiated from the transmitting oscillator 3 is made incident to a welded steel pipe 1 at a prescribed angle and is propagated along the weld line while being reflected prescribed-number of times repeatedly on inside and outside tube walls 1A and 1B and is received by the receiving oscillator 4. Since the variance of the level of transmission pulses in the weld reaches about >=20dB which is >=10 times as high as that in a base material part 8 where there are no variance of thickness, defects, etc., the position of the weld is detected accurately. Since a weld position detecting device 20 is provided on a common base 50, displacement parallel with the axis of an electric welded steel pipe 1 corresponds to devices 20 and 40 in 1:1, and copying control of a flaw detector 40 is performed directly with a weld position signal, which the weld position detecting device 20 detects, for displacement around the axis of the pipe.

    • PURPOSE:To detect easily and exactly the position of a weld zone with good reproducibility by making an ultrasonic pulse incident from an oscillator for transmission to a welding steel pipe, propagating the pulse along the weld line and detecting the change in the level of the transmitted pulse with an oscillator for reception. CONSTITUTION:A weld zone 2 of an electric welded steel pipe 1 subjected to high frequency resistance welding forms a linear weld line along the axial direction of the pipe and is subjected to an annealing treatment and bead cutting after welding. An oscillator set 5 rotating in a circumferential direction relatively with the pipe 1 is provided on the outside circumference of the pipe, and an ultrasonic pulse for scanning is emitted from an oscillator 5 for transmission of said set and is made incident and propagated in parallel with the weld line. Said pulse repeats reflection on the inside and outside pipe wall surfaces 1A, 1B of the pipe 1, and generates a large change in the pulse level in the weld zone 2 where the parallelism between the pipe walls is disturbed. Such pulse is detected with an oscillator 4 for reception whereby the position of the weld zone 2 is easily detected.

    • PURPOSE:To enable detailed inspection and the judgement of a flaw by certainly detecting only a harmful flaw, by arranging probes each having a narrow beam width in a mesh pattern so that the passing loci of the ultrasonic beams from the probes mutually have proper superposed flanges. CONSTITUTION:A preset area to be inspected, the positions of probes known in relative positional relation, a flaw position classified by a flaw kind, an echo height and a flaw length are preliminarily stored in the judge matrix of a signal processor 26' and, at first, an echo position 21 and and echo height 22 are obtained from a flaw detection signal 20 in a flaw detection apparatus 20'. The position 21 is corrected by the seam monitor signal 23 from a seam monitor apparatus 23'. A length measuring device 17' takes synchronous relation to the apparatus 20' and performs the measurement of a flaw length 18 and a position 19 in a longitudinal direction due to a flaw echo in a real time. The matrix 26 having taken in these signals compares the kind, size and acceptance of a flaw with preset information to evaluate the same and subsequently performs the delivery of a spray marker 24 to a material to be inspected and that of a signal to the automatic input to an on-line computer system 25.

    • PURPOSE: To prevent seizure between a casting mold and a billet by forming a thin-walled part on the wall surface of the casting mold near the meniscus of a molten metal and providing a hammering mechanism which applies impulsive waves to the thin walled part.
      CONSTITUTION: A thin walled part 12 is made on the wall surface of a casting mold near the meniscus of a molten metal in said mold and a water cooling box 14 is connected to the rear thereof. Hammers 20, 20' are installed on the outside of the short sides 2, 2' of the box 14 and on the side opposite to the box 14. When the part 12 is struck with the hammers 20, 20', impulsive waves 22, 22' are generated and propagate radially around the hammering points in the part 12. The oscillation is thus generated in the direction perpendicular to the casting direction, by which the seizure between the mold and the billet is prevented.
