A ball bearing 10 assembled with this holder 14 is used by coating both or one of the orbit faces of an outer ring 11 and an inner ring 12 and the surface of a ball 13 with a solid lubricant. Even if the lubricating film is peeled off by the rolling friction of the ball 13 while this ball bearing 10 is in use, the solid lubricant of the lubricant layer 17 provided on the surface 16 of the pocket 15 oozes as an abrasion material and is transferred and sticks to the surface of the pocket 15, and furthermore the solid lubricant stuck to the ball 13 is transferred and sticks to the orbit faces of the outer ring 11 and the inner ring 12, and a new lubricating film is formed.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform the life tests of various kinds of bearings at the low cost and in high reliability by measuring the loads, which are applied on the first housing, which supports a support bearing for supporting a rotary shaft in high rigidity, and a second housing, which supports a bearing under test for supporting the intermediate part of the rotary shaft freely rotatably in low rigidity. SOLUTION: A support bearing 15 is supported and fixed at a supporting wall 12 corresponding to the first housing in high rigidity. However, the supporting rigidity of a bearing under test 20, which is provided for supporting the intermediate part of a rotary shaft 2 at the second housing 19 is low. Therefore, bending stress is applied on the rotary shaft 2 by a radial load applied on a driven pulley 6 from the tension of an endless belt 7. The bending stress and the radial load Fp applied from the endless belt 7 are combined, and the complicated force in conformity with the actual service condition is applied on the bearing 20. Then, damages such as early peeling occur. In this way, the applied load and the rotating speed are made to be the values in conformity with the actual service condition, and the highly reliable test can be performed.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform the rolling motion of a rolling element smoothly even in the case where a power roller bearing outer ring is made so as to be deformed, thereby improving the reliability of a power roller bearing by constituting a cage holding plural pierces of rolling elements each free of rolling motions, from three retaining plates to be formed into nearly hollow toroidal form as a whole. SOLUTION: In this toroidal type continuously variable transmission which is comprised of a structure combined with both input and output disks and a power roller, a cage 1 assembled into a power roller bearing is composed of three retaining plates 2 to 4 forming into one hollow toroidal form as a whole. In addition, plural pieces of round pocket holes 5 are arranged on the retaining holes 2 to 4 along the circumferential direction of each retaining plate, and each of rolling element is held in each of the pocket holes 5 free of rolling motions. In this cage 1 thus constituted, the retaining plates 2 to 4 are individually able to increase or decrease a radius from the turning center. Therefore, even at a time wen an outer ring of the power roller bearing is deformed, and the locus of a raceway groove has already lost its complete round form, rolling motions of respective rolling elements are smoothly performed.

    • PURPOSE:To enhance the rolling life, and also to enhance the fatigue-crack resisting life by subjecting input/output disks and a power roller to carburizing treatment and grinding finish, and by specifying the effective thicknesses of the hardened layers thereof. CONSTITUTION:In a toroidal type continuously variable transmission, the power of an input shaft 13 is transmitted to a loading cam 14, and the power is transmitted to an input disk 11 via a cam roller 15 by the rotation of the cam 14, and the power produced by the rotation of the input disk 11 is transmitted to an output disk 12 via power rollers 16 and 17. In this case, the input/output disks 11, 12 and the power roller 16 are subjected to carburizing treatment and grinding finish, or to carbonitriding treatment and grinding finish. Further, the effective thickness of the hardened layer of at least one out of both disks 11, 12 and the power roller 16 is set to be 2.0mm or more and 4.0mm or less. Thus, the occurrence of separation on the traction surfaces of both the disks 11, 12 or the like can be prevented.
