    • PURPOSE:To prevent nonuniform solidification and to improve productivity by providing grating grooves having a specific shape and spacing on a casting mold surface near meniscus and packing different metals or ceramics into the grooves down to the depth of the prescribed conditions. CONSTITUTION:The grating-shaped grooves 2 having 0.5-1.0mm depth and 0.5-1.00mm width are provided to the casting mold surface near the meniscus of a molten steel in the casting mold and the spacing between the grooves is specified to a 5-10mm range. The different metals consisting of Ni and Cr or the ceramics such as BN, AlN and ZrO2 are packed at need into the grooves down to the depth at which the thermal resistance ratio (h) expressed by equation I attains >=1.5. Since the grooves 2 are disposed near the meniscus part, the formation of hexagonal rugged patterns on the immersion side of the solidified shell in the initial period of solidification and the formation of the ruggedness on the molten steel side is prevented from the initial period of solidification. The nonuniform solidification of the molten steel is thereby prevented and, therefore, the high-speed casting is enabled and the productivity is improved.

    • PURPOSE:To uniformize the solidified shell and to prevent the development of breakout by parallel arranging plural water cooling zone to longitudinal direction of a mold wall and setting cooling rate at the part of the mold wall corresponding to the each cooling zone, respectively. CONSTITUTION:The mold body having cylindrical mold wall 11 is formed and the water cooling zones 21, 22 are arranged at upper and lower parts with plural water boxes 20 at outer side of the mold wall 11. In the water cooling zones 21, 22, cooling water passages 23, 24 are arranged, and the zone 21 is set at above the meniscus part of molten metal and the zone 22 is set below the meniscus part. The water cooling zone 21 sets at slowly cooling condition to prevent rapid cooling and uneven thickness of the solidified shell. In the water cooling zone 22, the cooling condition to be possible to relatively rapid- cool is set to develop the solidified shell and prevent raising of molten metal temp. As the suitable water cooling condition is set at each water cooling zone and the mold wall 11 is cooled, the solidified shell is uniformized and the breakout caused by longitudinal crack is prevented.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent longitudinal crack of solidified shell at initial stage in kind of steel executing hypo-peritectic solidification having 0.10-0.15% carbon content by arranging the specific lattice-like grooves on mold surface positioning near meniscus of molten steel. CONSTITUTION:In the copper-made mold for continuous casting, on the mold surface positioning gear the meniscus of the molten steel in the mold, the lattice- like grooves having 0.5-1.0mm depth and 0.5-1.0mm width are arranged at 5-10mm interval between the grooves. By this method, cooling degrees at grooving part and non-grooving part fiffer and the initial solidification is a little delayed at the grooving part, which is weak cooling part. Therefore, the liquid phase is remained at every fixed intervals and absorbs strain at the time of shrinking, and bending of the solidified shell at the initial stage is restrained and the solidified shell is locally separated from the mold. Therefore, heat conduction is made uniform and the solidified shell thickness is made uniform. In this result, as the local thin part in the solidified shell layer is eliminated by developing the solidified shrinkage and transformation stress at the time of transforming delta gamma, the stress is not concentrated at one point.

    • PURPOSE:To restrain conduction of heat of molten steel during solidification, to form uniform solidified shell and to obtain a mold for continuously casting steel without developing any surface cracking by executing the strong and weak cooling at less than the specific size of interval near the meniscus of the molten steel in the mold. CONSTITUTION:At near the meniscus in the mold copper plate 21 as showing in the figure, for example, heat pipes 13 are embedded in the copper plate 21 in the range of 50-250mm at the interval of less than 30mm and cooling grooves 22 are fitted at the lower end thereof. Then, a cooling box 23 for cooling this copper plate 21 is arranged at back face of the copper plate 21. This cooling box 23 is divided into two steps and the upper step is used to cooling of the pipes 13 and the lower step is used to cooling of the cooling grooves 22. Then, the pipe 13 part and the groove 22 part are arranged at separated system. Further, cooling water rate is divided so as to become the same cooling as the whole mold to the pipe 13 part and the groove 22 part. By using the mold executing the strong and weak cooling in such way, for example, in the result of casting hypo-peritectic reaction series steel kind, the surface crack in the slab is almost eliminated (at less than 1/10) as compared with the conventional method, hot charge or hot direct rolling can be executed.
