    • PURPOSE:To constantly and accurately judge an abnormality regardless of whether it occurs at start-up of an engine or after the start-up by judging the abnormality in a cooling water temperature detecting means depending on the cooling water temperature at start-up of the engine, which is related to output property of the cooling water temperature detecting means, and the engine speed after the engine is started. CONSTITUTION:In addition to an engine speed sensor 2 and a cooling water temperature sensor 3, an idle switch 4 for detecting the fully closed state of a throttle valve 6 on an air intake pipe 5, etc., are installed on an internal combustion engine 1. Based on these respective signals, an electronic control device 9 controls an idle speed control valve 8 on a bypass passage 7 bypassing the throttle valve 6. In this case, the elecronic control device 9 stores the cooling water temperature detected at the time when the internal combustion engine 1 is started, by a RAM 9e. Until the judgement of an abnormality is made after the internal combustion engine 1 is started, a CPU 9 judges the abnormality in the cooling water temperature sensor 3 depending on the detected engine speed and the stored cooling water temperature.

    • PURPOSE:To correctly judge abnormality of an exhaust gas recirculation device (EGR). CONSTITUTION:A control circuit 8 controls a step motor 15 so as to change an EGR valve 13 at first from opening to closing or from closing to opening, and the changed quantity of pressure at this time is detected by means of an intake pipe pressure sensor 2. Next it is judged whether the changed quantity of the pressure is over a decided value or not. When the changed quantity is over the decided value, it is judged to be normal, and when the changed quantity is under the decided value, after enlarging the opening of the EGR valve 13, the step motor 15 is controlled so as to change the EGR valve from opening to closing, or from closing to opening, and the changed quantity of the pressure is detected by means of the intake pipe pressure sensor 2. Hereat, when the changed quantity is over the decided value, it is judged to be normal, and when it is under the decided value, it is judged to be abnormal.

    • PURPOSE:To detect misfire with good accuracy at all times by detecting misfire of an internal combustion engine on the basis of two fluctuation amounts which are set by deviation of an actually measured value between two cylinders in which explosion strokes are carried out successively, and deviation of an actual measured value whose rotational angle precedes a prescribed point. CONSTITUTION:A rotational signal is outputted by a means (A) every prescribed rotational angle according to rotation of an internal combustion engine. On the basis of the rotational signal, a time which is necessary for rotation in a prescribed rotational angle in explosion stroke of each cylinder is measured, and a practically measured value is calculated by a means (B). On the basis of the practically measured value, deviation of the real measured value between two cylinders in which explosion strokes are carried out successively, is found out so as to set a first fluctuation amount by a means (C). Meanwhile, on the basis of the rotational signal and the practically measured value, deviation of the practically measured values between two cylinders in which the rotational angle is just before 360 CA so as to set a second fluctuation amount by a means (D). On the basis of both fluctuation amounts, misfire of the internal combustion engine is detected by a means (E). It is thus possible to detect misfire with good accuracy at all times regardless of fluctuation of average rotational speed of the internal combustion engine.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent an error detection of knock in a transition by suppressing an abnormal rise of an average level when a knock signal is less than the level obtained by dividing the average level which is obtained by averaging the knock signals from a knock sensor by a specific constant. CONSTITUTION:An average level is produced by an average level producing means B by averaging the knock signals output from a knock sensor A to detect the knock generated in an internal combustion engine G, and a knock is decided by a knock decing means C depending on a knock deciding level obtained by multiplying the average level a specific times and a knock signal. And according to the output of the knock deciding means C, the internal combustion engine G is controlled by a control means D. In this case, a detecting means E to detect a knock signal less than the level obtained by dividing the average level of the knock signal by a specific number is provided, and depending on the detecting result, a rise of the average level is suppressed by a suppressing means F. Consequently, not only the knocking can be decided securely, but also an error detection of the knocking in a transition is prevented.

CONSTITUTION:At each determined section, the maximum value of a knock sensor signal detected for each cylinder is detected, and the all-cylinder average value of the knock sensor signal is calculated without distinction of cylinders on the basis of this maximum value, and each cylinder correction value is calculated at every maximum value detection as above, and each cylinder cumulation % value of the predetermination of the knock sensor signal is calculated for each cylinder on the basis of the all-cylinder average value and each cylinder correction value. And, a knock decision level is determined on the basis of each cylinder cumulation % value, and the comparison of the knock sensor signal maximum value and the knock decision level is made for each cylinder, and the presence of a knock is discriminated. That is, a knock decision level is prepared by correcting an all-cylinder average value which is renewed at every maximum value detection, with each cylinder correction value which is renewed at every cycle, and renewed at every ignition.

A misfire judging means 20 judges misfire of the multicylinder internal combustion engine 2 at every cylinder based on this set misfire judging value and the computed result by the engine speed fluctuating quantity computing means 21. As a result, a data quantity necessary for setting of the misfire judging value at every cylinder is minified and the memory capacity of a memory means can be reduced.
