    • PURPOSE:To prevent the wrong judgement of the occurrence of misfire by discriminating temporary misfire, and discriminating to be the actual occurrence of the misfire in a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine when only a part of the results of counting temporarily discriminated as the misfire is larger than the fixed number of times. CONSTITUTION:Detection signals issued from a rotating angle sensor 5 which is arrangedly provided on the crankshaft of an internal combustion engine 1 and serves as a rotation signal outputting means and a reference position sensor 6 are inputted into an electronic control unit(ECU) 9. ECU 9 computes the fluctuation of the number of engine revolutions on the detection signal issued from the rotating angle sensor 5, and temporarily discriminates whether the internal combustion engine 1 misfires or not on the result of above computation by a temporary misfire discriminating means. At this time, the misfire of the internal combustion engine 1 is actually discriminated from a counting means to count the number of times of the temporary discrimination of the occurrence of misfire in each cylinder and the result of counting executed through the counting means by an actual misfire discriminating means. Thus the misfire can be accurately judged.

    • PURPOSE:To provide a device wherein a miss-fire is decided with high precision even in the case of all internal combustion engines without producing a miss-fire deciding value needing minute adaptation in consideration of unevenness of each internal combustion engine. CONSTITUTION:A time between a preceding execution timing and a present execution timing is measured at a step 100 and an engine rotation speed omegan at an every angle of 120 deg. CA is computed at a step 130. From the engine rotation speed omegan, an average rotation speed change amount DELTAomegan is determined at a step 140 and three accumulation % points, for example, 50% accumulation, 66% accumulation, and 90% accumulation, of the average rotation speed change amount DELTAomegan are detected at a step 150. It is decided at a step 190 whether the degree of a change of the accumulation % point from an accumulation 50% point to an accumulation 66% point, calculated at a step 160, is approximately equal to the degree of a change of an accumulation % point from an accumulation 66% point to an accumulation 90% point, calculated at a step 170. When the degrees of a change are not equal to each other, it is decided that a miss-fire occurs.

    • PURPOSE:To correctly judge misfire without memorizing a misfire judging value at each cylinder by computing a rotation fluctuating quantity in the explosion stroke of each cylinder, and comparing it with a misfire judging value set based on the degree of dispersion of combustion condition in each cylinder at normal combustion. CONSTITUTION:An engine speed fluctuating quantity computing means 21 computes an engine speed fluctuating quantity in the explosion stroke of each cylinder of a multicylinder internal combustion engine 2, based on rotation signals output from rotation signal output means 10, 16. A misfire judging value setting means 21 sets a misfire judging value of each cylinder, based on a reference misfire judging value memorized by a reference misfire judging value memory means 22 and a misfire judging value correcting factor memorized by a misfire judging value correcting factor memory means 22. A misfire judging means 20 judges misfire of the multicylinder internal combustion engine 2 at every cylinder based on this set misfire judging value and the computed result by the engine speed fluctuating quantity computing means 21. As a result, a data quantity necessary for setting of the misfire judging value at every cylinder is minified and the memory capacity of a memory means can be reduced.
