The seal 36 is formed of a hollow seal body 10 and a fin-shaped sediment scraping part 20. In addition, the sediment scraping part 20 is installed, in a diagonal forward direction, at a position where the deformation of the seal body 10 is not given thereto.

      SOLUTION: Segment retaining bodies 12, 13 for freely advancing-retreating or freely expanding-contracting toward the tunnel central side are arranged in a plurality at a proper interval in the circumferential direction in a rear side position on the inside surface side of a skin plate 8 being an outer shell of a shielding machine 1. The segment retaining bodies 12, 13 are made to be a relative positional relation wherein a rear side segment retaining train 15 is located in a position close to a cutting side of the following train, when the segment retaining group arranged in the peripheral direction is made to be one train and two trains are vertically arranged in the direction of the tunnel, and the front side segment retaining body train 14 is located at a substantially center position of the front-most train segment. The segment retaining bodies 12, 13 are composed of an expandable mat 12 or a hydraulic jack 13 freely expandable-contractible by fluid such as liquid, gas, oil or the like.
