摘要： PURPOSE:To diminish the damage of a bearing by bearing a work roll chock with an intermediate roll outer chock and aligning the position of the work roll balance with the central position of work roll bearing. CONSTITUTION:The shaft end of the work roll 1 is supported by the work roll chock 11. The intermediate roll 2 is supported by an intermediate roll outer chock 12 and the work roll 1 is pressed and supported by a reinforcing roll through this intermediate roll. Then, the work roll chock 11 is born by the intermediate roll outer chock 12 through a work roll balance 13. The installed position of the work roll balance 13 and the central position in the axial direction of a work roll bearing supporting the axial end of the work roll 1 in the work roll chock 11 are nearly aligned. In this way, a deviated moment can be prevented from acting on the work roll bearing.

SOLUTION: An ultrasonic test equipment 21 for detecting the defect of a work roll 3 is provided on a roll grinding device 11 which is assembled on the housing 2 of the rolling mill 1. When the size of the defect detected with this ultrasonic testing equipment 21 is within an allowable range, rolling is continued and when the defect is possible to on-line grind, rolling is continued after removing the defect by grinding. When on-line grinding is impossible, rolling is continued after changing the work roll 3 and, on the other hand, the defect of the work roll 3 changed is off-line removed.
