    • PURPOSE:To develop solidified shell having uniform thickness and to obtain a metal strip without having component segregation, surface flaw of lap, etc., and crack by pouring molten metal into pouring basin part formed with cooling drums and side weirs so as to come to uniform upward flow to width direction. CONSTITUTION:The molten metal discharged from discharging holes 14 in a nozzle 10 submerged into the pouring basin part 3 is collided to weirs 15a, 15b continuously arranged to axial direction of the cooling drums 1a, 1b and stirred and mixed between the side walls 11a, 11b and the weirs 15a, 15b to come to the uniform upward flow to the width direction. The molten metal is flowed along the molten metal surface and the cooling drums 1a, 1b in the pouring basin part 3 as showing with the arrow mark 5 and solidified. By this method, as the molten metal surface is not solidified because of coming to uniform molten metal temp. in the pouring basin part 3, the development of the surface flaw caused by enclosing the solidified material can be prevented. Further, as the solidified shell is uniformly developed to the width direction and the solidified shell having uniform thickness is press-welded and rolled between the cooling drums 1a, 1b, the metal strip 4 having excellent surface characteristic without component segregation and crack.

    • PURPOSE:To produce a thin billet having excellent surface characteristic by packing recessed parts formed on peripheral surface of a cooling drum with refractory to form a smooth surface. CONSTITUTION:The plural recessed parts 2 are formed on the peripheral surface of the cooling drum 1, and at the time of bringing the peripheral surface of the cooling drum 1 into contact with the molten metal, the recessed parts 2 form independent air gaps, which are not mutually connected. Therefore, cooling condition of the solidified shell growing on the peripheral surface in the cooling drum 1 is released to avoid the concentration of stress in a part, which locally has low rigidity. The refractory 6 is packed into the recessed part 2 and the peripheral surface in the cooling drum 1 is smoothly finished. Therefore, the contacting condition between the peripheral surface in the drum 1 and the molten metal, is made to uniform to the drum axial direction and rotational direction and it is unnecessary to give the molten metal vibration. By this method, the molten metal surface in pouring basin part is held to still and the solidification of the molten metal 4 and the growth of the solidified shell are executed under the stable condition and the obtd. thin billet is prevented from the generation of traverse wrinkle.
