    • PURPOSE:To reduce or eliminate the side thrust of a work roll for performing high speed rolling and preventing the damage of bearings by crossing a backup roll and a work roll with each other, in performing the cross rolling by upper and lower work rolls. CONSTITUTION:Though a cross rolling by work rolls 1, 2 is performed for improving the accuracy of sheet thickness, side thrusts exert respectively on the rolls 1, 2 to increase the loads of bearing parts. The thrusts are dispersed by crossing respectively the work rolls 1, 2 and backup rolls 3, 4 with each other, and the thrusts exerting on the rolls 1, 2 can be offset with each other to a zero level by adjusting them. That is, when the inclination angle of the rolls 3, 4 is made smaller than the inclination angle thetaW of the work rolls 1, 2 by angle DELTAtheta, the directions of thrusts FW and FB are made reverse to each other to offset them with each other. Thus, the thrust F to a mechanism for receiving the thrust load is reduced.

    • PURPOSE:To improve shape controlling ability with the bending effect of intermediate rolls and the projecting shape effect of split reinforcing rolls in a multiple stages cluster rolling mill by moving a pair of upper, lower work rools in mutually opposite directions in the axial direction of the rolls. CONSTITUTION:The effective ends of upper, lower work rolls 2 are moved and set to at the positions apart by certain distances from both ends accaording to a rolling material 1. While the above-described distances are changed depending upon the shape of the material 1 after the rolling, roll bending devices 10 mounted between intermediate roll metal chocks 7 and housing 9 are actuated. Since the rolls 2 are small in diameter, the parts in contact with the material 1 bend along the rolls 3, and as the positions of the reaction of rolling acting upon the rolls 2 from the rolls 3 go nearer the end parts of the material 1, the bending moment by the contact load received from the rolls 3 decreases and the bending deformation of the work rolls in the end plates of the plate is reduced. At the same time, the deformation of the work rolls near the end parts of the plate by the rolling load is corrected by crown, whereby the rolled products of good shapes are obtained.

A chock 32 of the upper work roll 10 is made independent of a chock 30 which is upholding the intermediate rolls 12, 14 and upper backup rolls 16, 18, 20: by the present constitution, the roll bender for controlling the shape of a material to be rolled becomes applicable, and the replacement of the work roll 10 is made very easily practicable.
