    • PURPOSE:To miniaturize a humidity sensitive element, to reduce a heat loss produced at a time when a heater is heated, and to simplify a manufacturing process, by a method wherein a resistant heating layer and a conductive electrode are secured together through the medium of a humidity sensitive ceramic layer. CONSTITUTION:A humidity sensitive element 11, formed into a direct heat type, is constituted such that a heat resistant substrate 12, a humidity sensitive ceramic 13 and a conductive electrode layer 14 are burned and hardened into a monolithical unity, a lead wire 15 is placed in a given position of the conductive electrode layer 14, and a zigzagging heater 16 is mounted between the heat resistant substrate 12 and the humidity ceramic 13. If a humidity in an atmosphere is measured by the use of the humidity sensitive element 11 so constituted, it is measured through the lead wire 15 and one end of a lead wire for the heater 16. Contamiants on the surface of the humidity sensitive ceramic exposed to the air are removed by heating the humidity sensitive element 11 itself through chrarging of a high current to the heater 16 built into the humidity sensitive element, and this permits the restoration of a humidity sensitive property.
