摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain ethylene glycol containing little impurities in high concentration and high yield, by separating an aqueous solution of crude ethylene glycol discharged from a process for preparing ethylene oxide from ethylene by the column chromatography, and circulating the separated ethylene glycol in a low concentration through the column chromatographic step. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution of crude ethylene glycol discharged from a process for preparing ethylene oxide is directly or preferably concentrated in a suitable manner and fed from a pipe 6 to a chromatographic column 1 packed with a cation exchange resin 2, and then developed with water from a pipe 3 to divide and obtain a column eluate according to the composition thereof and purify the ethylene glycol. A waste liquor part containing organic acid and colored components in high concentrations and almost no ethylene glycol and a part containing ethylene glycol in a high concentration are separated respectively from the column eluate and taken out of the system. On the other hand, an ethylene glycol part in a low concentration is passed through a pipe 7 and circulated through the column chromatographic step to obtain the aimed aqueous solution of the ethylene glycol in a high concentration.

CONSTITUTION:Ethylene oxide (EO) obtained by catalytically reacting ethylene with oxygen in the vapor phase is reacted with water to give a rection solution containing the titled substance (EG), which is then subjected to the dehydrating distillation to afford EG. In the process, an aqueous solution, containing EG, organic acid components and coloring components, and discharged from the process for preparing EO is concentrated suitably, and separated by the chromatography with a cation exchange resin as a carrier by using water as a developing agent to give an aqueous solution of EG with reduced contents of organic acid components and coloring components, which is then fed to a step before the dehydrating distillation. An aqueous solution of EG obtained by the chromatographic separation is preferably treated further with a cation exchange resin and anion exchange resin.

摘要： PURPOSE:A solution of an alkali metal salt of polycarboxylic acid is passed through a bed filled with an anion-exchange resin, the feed is stopped, when the affluent exceeds a tolerance in its salt concentration, then an aqueous mineral acid is used to effect elution to purify the titled compound economically. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution of a polycarboxylic acid alkali metal salt, such as its sodium or potassium salt, is passed through a bed filled with a salt- type anion-exchange resin. The concentration of the polycarboxylic acid salt in the solution to be treated is usually 0.1-1N for smooth operation. The space velocity of the solution is usually 0.5-5hr preferably. When the concentration of the polycarboxylate exceeds a tolerance, the feed of the solution is stopped and a mineral acid solution is fed to the bed to obtain the polycarboxylic acid solution.

摘要： PURPOSE:To recover ethylene glycol in high yield, by subjecting an agueous solution containing the ethylene glycol discharged in the process of oxidizing ethylene with oxygen to obtain ethylene oxide to the column chromatography, and separating the impurities from the aqueous solution. CONSTITUTION:A reaction gas obtained by catalytically oxidizing ethylene with oxygen in the vapor phase, and containing ethylene oxide is washed with water to give the ethylene oxide. In the process, a discharged agueous solution containing ethylene glycol (EG) and organic acid components and coloring components is, if desired, suitably concentrated, subjected to the column chromatography with a cation exchange resin as a carrier by using water as a developing agent and separated into at least three parts, i.e. the first part containing organic acid components, coloring components and almost no EG, the second part containing organic acid components, coloring components and EG in a low concentration and the third component containing EG in a high concentration. The second part is then circulated through the preparing process of the ethylene oxide or the chromatographic separation step to recover the third part as an aqueous solution of EG.

As described above, even if the liquid to be treated and the extrusion liquid are changed over, both liquids are scarecely mixed.

An aqueous solution of ethylene glycol almost free from organic components and color components can be obtained by this process.
