The driving of the photographic lens to perform the focus control is stopped by the focus control part 29 when the movement of the object is not detected by the movement detecting part 26, on the other hand, when the movement of the object is detected by the movement detecting parts 25 and 26, the photographic lens is driven to perform the focus control.

      SOLUTION: The auto-focusing control part 20 of a digital camera 1 performs the focus control of a photographic lens based on an image constituted by an image signal obtained by photoelectrically converting a subject image. The auto-focusing control part 20 is equipped with a contrast arithmetic part 22 and an edge arithmetic part 23 calculating evaluated values showing a focusing state in each of a plurality of focusing evaluation areas set within the image, a skin color pixel number arithmetic part 24 detecting skin color information in each of a plurality of focusing evaluation areas, a photographic magnification arithmetic part 25 obtaining the photographic magnification of the subject, and a focusing control part 29 selecting a focus control object area out of a plurality of focusing evaluation areas based on the evaluated value, the skin color information and the photographic magnification and performing the focus control based on information concerning the selected object area.
