    • PURPOSE:To easily obtain a heat insulating thermally sprayed layer which is uniform, has a high porosity and excellent in the thermal insulation property and, further, to improve the adhesive strength of the boundary between a base layer and the heat insulating thermally sprayed layer and the oxidation resistance, as well. CONSTITUTION:The base layer 11 is formed on a base material 10 and the thermally sprayed layer 12 of fine ceramic powders excellent in the thermal insulation property is formed thereon and further, powders mixed with the ceramic powders excellent in the thermal insulation property and a specific amount of Si3N4 powders is melt-sprayed to form the thermally sprayed layer 13 having a high porosity. The Si3N4 powders in the mixed powders are heated to a high temperature in the plasma-thermal spraying process and then gasified. Consequently, many porosities remain in the thermally sprayed layer 13 formed in the above-mentioned manner developing the thermally sprayed layer having a high porosity and excellent in the thermal insulation property. On the other hand, since the thermally sprayed layer 12 is dense, it tightly adheres to the base layer 11 and excellent in resistance to oxidation, as well.

    • PURPOSE:To improve dimensional accuracy of a cast cylinder block by engaging projecting parts on the circular peripheral face of a liner with recessed parts near the upper and lower ends of a bore core and solidifying a molten metal while allowing the molten metal to go around the gap between the liner and the bore core with the aid of the recessed parts. CONSTITUTION:The bore core 2 is set in a bore of the liner 1 separately formed and by inserting the liner 1 as internal chill, the cylinder block is cast. Then, at side faces near the upper and lower end parts of bore core 2, the upper and lower side recessed parts 2a, 2b are formed. By projecting a part of the inner peripheral face of the liner 1 in the axial direction of liner, the upper and lower side projecting parts 1a, 1b are formed and the projecting parts 1a, 1b are engaged with the recessed parts 2a, 2b. After that, the molten metal is poured into cavity 7 and solidified while allowing the molten metal to go around the gap formed between the liner 1 and the bore core 2 with the recessed parts to cast the cylinder block. By this method, the liner and the inserting material can be firmly joined.

    • PURPOSE:To integrate a cylinder liner and an internal chilling material and to strengthen mechanical connection by arranging pouring basin part for molten metal in inner part of bore core at the time of manufacturing a cast iron-made cylinder block. CONSTITUTION:The pouring basin parts 5, 5 are arranged in the bore core part 3 and communicated with a runner 7 through a flowing passage 6 formed in vertical direction in inner part of the core 4. Then, the pouring basin parts 5, 5 are arranged at side part facing to the Y direction in inner circumferential face of the cylinder liner 2, i.e., as approaching position facing to place, where it is difficult to hold at the high temp. after pouring the molten metal. Further, the molten metal for internal chilling material is poured and filled up into a mold M from a sprue 8, and after solidifying, the mold M and core 4 are removed to obtain the cast iron-made cylinder block. Therefore, side part of the liner 2 is heated with radiant heat of the pouring basin parts 5, 5 and the temp. uniformity in the whole circumference of liner 2 is improved and the mechanical connection between the liner 2 and the internal chilling material is strengthened.

    • PURPOSE:To surely remove a surface flaw by filling a surface flaw portion produced at a portion of a cast member that is not subjected to after working with an oxidation restrainer, then oxidizing the surface portion of the above portion by heat treatment, and removing scale generating in the above oxidation by shot blast. CONSTITUTION:In an oxidation restrainer filling process, an oxidation restrainer 7 fills up a surface flaw portion 6 of an I portion 2 of a connecting rod raw material (cast article) 1, that is not subjected to after working. In a two-stage annealing process, the connecting rod raw material 1 filled with the above oxidization restrainer 7 is heat-treated, whereby the raw material 1 is subjected to the texture preparation such as graphitization of cementite, distortion is eliminated and simultaneously oxidized scale is generated on the surface. In this case, the surface flaw portion 6 is restrained from being oxidized more than at the other portion, so that the oxidized scale at the surface flaw portion 6 is restrained from being scale at the surface flow portion is thinner than that at the other portion. Accordingly, in a short blast process, iron particles are continuously sprayed to the raw material 1, whereby the oxidized scale can be removed to the surface flaw, so that the surface is made substantially flat.

    • PURPOSE:To make structure of a casting closely and to improve strength of a product by holding a mold with backup material composing of metallic grains packed in a vessel and vacuumsucking inner part of the vessel at the time of casting molten metal into the mold. CONSTITUTION:The mold 5 is held with the backup material 4 in the mold chamber 3 and a space chamber 6 is connected with a vacuum pump 7. The mold chamber 3 and the space chamber 6 are communicated through a stainless steel filter 8 and the backup material 4 is composed of large grain diameter steel shot 4a packed at circumference of the product part 5a and small grain diameter steel shot 4b covered at the upper part thereof. At the same time of pouring the molten metal into a mold 5, the vacuum pump 7 is worked. The grains of the large grain diameter steel shot 4a are coagulated dy vacuum sucking and the backup force to the product part 5a in the mold 5 is increased and expanded deformation of the mold 5 at the time of casting is prevented and running of the molten metal is improved. By this method, the good casting having excellent dimensional accuracy without structure defect can be obtd.
