    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external electrode type discharge lamp and the like capable of preventing separation of an electrode from a glass bulb.
      SOLUTION: This external electrode type discharge lamp is provided with the glass bulb 3 formed out of a glass material, electrodes 5 and 7 arranged on outside surfaces of both ends of the glass bulb 3, and covering members covering the electrodes 5 and 7. The glass bulb 3 has a protective layer, a phosphor layer and the like formed on its inside surface, and is filled with mercury, a rare gas and the like. The electrodes 5 and 7 contain conductive materials 5a and 7a, and frit glass pieces 5b and 7b having a melting point lower than that of the glass bulb 3, respectively, and the plurality of frit glass pieces 5b and 7b are jointed to the outside surface of the glass bulb 3.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-pressure discharge lamp in which a problem is solved that, when a low-pressure discharge lamp provided with a backlight unit is required to be made larger, a sealing means at an end portion of a bulb, a component member, is required to be provided with a charge/discharge tube at the sealing end portion in order to charge/discharge inside the bulb under an ordinary pressure if a bead sealing is changed into a squeeze sealing in view of a cost reduction and as a result, an introduction wire has to be made thinner and the introduction wire becomes unable to support the discharging lamp and a crack is likely to develop at a bulb end portion if the sealing means is changed into the squeeze sealing, when a mouth piece is fixed on the bulb end portion for supporting the discharge lamp. SOLUTION: The charge/discharge tube 31 necessitated when the squeeze sealing is introduced is extended from the sealing portion 32 and the extended part is wound by the introduction wires 25, 27, where the mouth piece is fixed.
