    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an underground cavity construction method which contributes to reduction in influence on a circumferential environment.
      SOLUTION: When an underground tunnel 10 is constructed, first a pair of shield tunnels 11 are constructed. The shield tunnels 11 are bored in the ground in a manner being spaced a predetermined interval away from each other so that a center O of each circular cross-sectional tunnel is located on an upward extension from each side of the underground tunnel 10 (underground cavity) to be constructed. Then water cutoff continuous walls 12 are each formed from inside of the shield tunnel 11 and extend along side portions of the underground tunnel 10 to be constructed, in a manner opposed to each other. When formation of the continuous walls 12 is completed, excavation in the ground between the continuous walls 12 is carried out to implement upper half excavation 20 of the tunnel, to thereby set upper half timbering 24. After completion of setting of the upper half timbering 24, wall surfaces formed by the upper half excavation 20 are coated with a concrete layer, and the upper half timbering 24 is intimately stuck to the natural ground, followed by carrying out lower half excavation of the tunnel.
