    • PURPOSE:To obtain a billet which is clean in the front layer part and has extremely little central segregation by casting continuously a molten steel while using the electromagnetic stirrer in such a manner that the molten steel flows upward on the inside wall surface of a casting mold and flows in the transverse direction of the billet in a secondary cooling zone. CONSTITUTION:The electromagnetic stirrer 5 in the casting mold is so operated that the molten steel 1 flows upward on the inside wall surface of the mold 3 and the in-roll type electromagnetic stirrer 7 is so operated that the molten steel 1 flows in the transverse direction of the billet in the secondary cooling zone in a continuous casting machine for slab which obtains the bloom by pouring the molten steel 1 from a tundish 2 into the mold 3, supporting and drawing out a solidified shell layer 4 formed as a result of cooling by means of rolls 6 and subjecting the shell layer to secondary cooling. The increase in the size of the inclusion and the floating of the inclusion and foam are thus accelerated and the billet having good quality is obtd.

    • PURPOSE:To provide a lining construction for a tundish which prevents the reaction between a calcareous coating material and lining material and permits the easy hoisting of a residual steel by forming MgO-contg. intermediate refractories between the coating material and the lining material. CONSTITUTION:The intermediate refractory material 3 contg. >=80% MgO is formed between the calcareous coating material 4 contg. >=10wt% CaO or CaCO3 or both thereof and the lining material 2 of a shell 1. About 1-30mm. thickness of the material 3 is satisfactory. The inclusions in the steel in the tundish are decreased and the easy stripping of the used material 4 is made possible by such lining construction. The productivity of the clean steel is improved as well.

    • PURPOSE:To make possible the control of operating conditions based on the actually measured surface temp. of a billet by attaching and pressing a riveting gun to the continuously casting billet in a high-temp. region by an automatic remoto operation, attaching a thermocouple by one action to the billet and retreating the gun. CONSTITUTION:A gun frame 13 which moves at a short stroke is connected to a moving frame 12 which moves at a long stroke toward a billet 3 with respect to a supporting frame 11 in order to rivet and attach the measuring contact of the thermocouple for measuring the surface temp. to the billet in the process of continuous casting. The riveting gun 14 which presses a gun barrel 31 to the billet 3 and shoots the rivet is attached to the frame 13 and the barrel 31 is brought near the billet 3 through the apeture 9 of a bunker 8 by the automatic remoto operation and is further pressed thereto so that the thermocouple is riveted to the billet 3. The thermocoupls if thus safely and surely attached to the billet and the adequate control of the operating conditions based on the actually measured surface temp. of the billet is made possible.
